Server rejected one of the recipient’s addesses

When I am away from home using a different WiFi with my iPad, I receive emails but apart from the odd one I cannot send emails the message is placed in my outbox and the message ‘the server rejected one of the recipient’s addresses….’ appears. I am only sending to one person and the address is correct. There is no problem sending emails via Webmail and I have relay.plus.net on. Any thoughts?

Re: Server rejected one of the recipient’s addesses

@Dc6 If you are sending away from home, have you authenticated you address?

@Dc6 I note you use the iPad away from home. Do you have a desktop/laptop at home, and if you do, how do you normally receive your emails?

Re: Server rejected one of the recipient’s addesses

I have a laptop at home with Thunderbird but I usually use my iPad for emails at home as well as away.

OK, that helps, because you need to 'authenticate' when using a connection other than your own.  I can't remember the steps to do so off the top - must have been 9 years since I did it, but I'll have a look and  see if I can find the details tomorrow.

Re: Server rejected one of the recipient’s addesses

Fix

Thanks for your post @Dc6 and welcome to our Community Forums.

To send mail while you're away from home, try the following steps:

Settings > Mail > Accounts > Select the right email account > Tap on the email address > Select SMTP under Outgoing Mail Server > Tap on the Primary Server which should be relay.plus.net

From here, make sure there's a green dot showing next to Server to suggest it's turned on. Host Name should be relay.plus.net, username is your account username if you're using the primary Plusnet email address, or it's in the format of username+mailbox if your email address is an additional mailbox.

Password for the primary mailbox is your account password, but for an additional mailbox it'll have its own you'd have set.

Turn SSL on by making sure there's a green dot next to Use SSL. Set the Authentication as Password.

Finally the Server Port should be 465. Let us know how it goes Smiley

Re: Server rejected one of the recipient’s addesses

Changed my mind and have just done it and….bingo! Thanks very much for the help. Had to change the port from 587 and add the optional user name and password.
