Server password has been changed when trying to connect to mailbox

When my mobile tries to connect to my plusnet mailbox, it fails and displays the message 'Server password has been changed'.  Mailbox was working earlier today but is now failing. (Mobile network = Vodafone, Client = Android email).

When I go to webmail, my mailbox password hasn't changed and I can login using the browser..

What is happening?

Re: Server password has been changed when trying to connect to mailbox

I'm assuming that since you're connecting from the Vodafone network, you're using authenticated smtp. Has the password changed on the account/mailbox being used for authentication ?

Security type = none

Connecting directly to the mailbox with the mailbox password.

Connecting directly to the mailbox with the mailbox password.

Yes, but that's for collecting mail. What do you have in the settings for outgoing mail ( smtp ) ?

Re: Server password has been changed when trying to connect to mailbox

Incoming server settings work.

Outgoing server settings don't work.

Have reentered outgoing server settigns as per plusnet help but still no good.

Outgoing server relay.plus.net
Outgoing port 587
SSL/TLS No
SMTP Authentication
(only needed if you're sending emails from a non-Plusnet Internet connection)*
Yes

Re: Server password has been changed when trying to connect to mailbox

You need to eneter a username & password on the outgoing settings. These can either be your main account details i.e the ones used to access the member centre OR a mailbox name and password in the form you use to log into webmail

Re: Server password has been changed when trying to connect to mailbox

Looks like it is port 587 that is the problem.

Changed it to 25 and mail client can now connect to plusnet.

Very strange. Port 587 has been working for many months.

Re: Server password has been changed when trying to connect to mailbox

Even stranger.  Port 25 has stopped working and I have had to change it back to 587 (which now works).

Is it Vodafone messing around or Plusnet?

And today, neither port 25 or 587 are working. Sad
