Sending an automatic reply from Greenby

I suspect the answer is no, but is there a way of setting Greenby webmail to send out an automatic reply to any messages received? Something along the lines of

"I am sick to death of this lousy email service from Greenby, so I am changing my plusnet email address to ..... Please update your address book to the new email address."

Re: Sending an automatic reply from Greenby

That is an interesting question, so I asked AI whether Greenby supports automatic replies to incoming emails.

I don't know whether the answer is true or useful,  but this is what it said -

Yes, Greenby (the email service that took over Plusnet email, run by Enix Ltd) supports automatic “out of office” / vacation replies. These are server-side auto-responders that work even if you’re not logged into webmail or a client.

Greenby uses Roundcube webmail (at webmail.enmail.co) plus a customer dashboard/portal for account management. Auto-replies are typically set up in one of these places:

1. Via the Greenby dashboard / client area (recommended first check)

  • Log in at greenby.com with your email address and password.
  • Go to your email/mailbox management section (often under “Manage”, “Email”, or similar for the relevant account).
  • Look for Autoresponders, Vacation, Out of Office, or Automatic replies.
  • Create/enable one, write your message (subject + body), set start/end dates if available, and choose the reply interval.
  • Save. This is the most reliable place for server-side replies.

Community discussions of the Greenby portal confirm it handles mailbox settings (including spam controls, passwords, create/disable accounts, etc.).

2. Via Roundcube webmail

  • Log in at https://webmail.enmail.co/ (or the webmail link from your Greenby dashboard).
  • Go to Settings (gear icon).
  • Check for:
    • A Vacation / Out of Office / Absence section (if the managesieve/vacation plugin is enabled), or
    • Filters → create a new filter that applies to all messages and uses the action Reply with message.
  • Enter your subject and body text. Set any start/end dates or reply interval if offered.
  • Save/enable the filter or vacation rule.

Many Roundcube + hosting setups (including cPanel-style systems that Enix commonly uses) also expose Autoresponders directly in the webmail home or control panel.

Important notes on “every incoming email”

  • Most email systems (including typical Roundcube/cPanel autoresponders) do not reply to every single message from the same sender. They use an interval (e.g., once per day, every few hours, or every 4 days) to prevent reply loops, spam, and flooding.
  • You can often set the interval to 0 (reply every time) in cPanel-style autoresponders, but this is risky and not always recommended.
  • Auto-replies usually ignore spam, mailing lists, and some automated messages.
  • Test by sending yourself an email from another account.

If you can’t find the option in the dashboard or webmail:

  • Use the Help & Support / live chat or ticket system on greenby.com (mention you need an out-of-office / autoresponder).
  • Contact them after migration is complete, as support is handled by Greenby once your account is transferred.

Once set, the auto-reply runs on the server independently of any desktop/mobile client. Turn it off (or set an end date) when you return.

Re: Sending an automatic reply from Greenby

A more pragmatic approach would be to swap your Greenby mailbox for a forwarder
so you receive the emails that are being sent to you.

Firing automated rejections back at vendors and banks etc is not a smart move.

In the last 6 months there have been sporadic Greenby email outages
but no more so than when Plusnet ran the service.

Your earlier gripe about not being able to sent to Microsoft email accounts is due to still sending via a Plusnet
hosted SMTP like relay.plus.net that has a very poor sender reputation.

Using a Greenby hosted SMTP with a 91.xxx.xxx.xxx IP we have good delivery to  Microsoft / Gmail / Talk Talk.

@ExForce9

Might I suggest the AI you used as conflated Greenby with GreenNet, at first Copilot replicated your post once challenged Copilot give this reply.

My chanllenge - greenby is not the same as GreenNet
Ah, that explains the confusion — thank you for clarifying.
Greenby (the community webmail service) is not GreenNet, and it uses a completely different platform. Because of that, the instructions I gave earlier won’t apply.
