SPAM rejection

Hi,

I'm trying to send emails to a plusnet user but getting

552 Spam Message Rejected

Can you please assist me with the process to whitelist my email address domain?

Many thanks,

Tom

Re: SPAM rejection

I’m fairly sure that only the recipient can whitelist as it’d defeat the purpose of a spam blocker otherwise.

Re: SPAM rejection

To follow from @Thrall 's comment above, the rejection notification is created by the Cloudmark system so white-listing wouldn't help. Who is getting the notification - you @tgoirand  - or the recipient?

Re: SPAM rejection

I've checked with Cloudmark and they say domains are not badly ranked.

IMO, how strange it is to filter out and block customers emails. They shouldn't allow that.

Re: SPAM rejection

@tgoirand It is something IN the email that is causing the rejection, not its origin. Do you have the full rejection message - it should have more detail than what you have posted?

Re: SPAM rejection

The email contains links to the URL that I checked against Cloudmark and they are apparently clear (email content is confidential though).

The message rejection is rather poor of details as you can see:

Reporting-MTA: dns; googlemail.com
Received-From-MTA: dns; XXX
Arrival-Date: Tue, 02 Mar 2021 03:19:07 -0800 (PST)
X-Original-Message-ID: <861600551.434.1614683947174.JavaMail.alfresco@XXXX.internal>

Final-Recipient: rfc822; XXX@oddfellows.plus.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0
Remote-MTA: dns; mx.avasin.plus.net. (212.159.8.200, the server for the domain xxxxxx.plus.com.)
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 552 Spam Message Rejected
Last-Attempt-Date: Tue, 02 Mar 2021 03:19:10 -0800 (PST)

Re: SPAM rejection

@Thrall the recipient doesn't seem to even have the option to accept, reject or whitelist. Or if they do, they're not aware of it.

Re: SPAM rejection

The recipient would need to contact Plusnet with the bounceback, headers, date and time of your email so it can be raised with Cloudmark.

Re: SPAM rejection

Sounds easier to go with a different provider.

Re: SPAM rejection

@Thrall I know it is early in the morning, so brain might not be in gear, but doesn't it fall to the sender to do that - the recipient doesn't even see the email?

@tgoirand And if that other ISP also uses Cloudmark, you're in the same position.

@tgoirand there are facilities to whiltlist. The recipient needs to use the 'manage my mail' option in the member centre, the select the Spam tab and there are options there to whitelist or blacklist addresses , see the help and support topic here for more details  https://www.plus.net/help/email-guides/spam-protection-guide/

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: SPAM rejection

@MisterW Thanks for the information, it seems users can disable the aggressive spam filter. It is good to know. I don't feel it works very well though, especially if I read other posts, moreover plusnet is the only provider I have problem with (And I send the same kind of notifications to more than 200 users in the UK).
