[SOLVED]cant send mail via smtp to gmail

Since yesterday I have been unable to send mail via thunderbird to gmail. Anybody else having problems with it?
EDIT:change to smtp from imap
Solution was to replace my router. This has also fixed my streaming issues.

imap is the incoming server, sending still uses relay.
Sending from Thunderbird to a gmail address (using the Force9 relay server) is working OK for me.

I don't use any relays. My domain account has been with gmail for past couple of years.
I am having issues connecting to the smtp server - tb says connected then failed to send.
I am also having streaming issues.
I am beginning to think it may be my nic even though I have no errors shown.

Tutorial http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/21 has a section Checking the SMTP server
I suggest you try that (substituting the gmail server name) to make sure you can access it.
