Re: SMTP error 452

I’m astonished that Greenby want to continue with the migration while the existing service is so dreadful. I now hold my breath for a minute every time I press the Send key in case it’s too far past the hour mark or my email happens to get routed via one of the blacklisted servers.

This is absolutely ridiculous and the continued absence of any information from Plusnet is just adding insult to injury. After all these months, what have they got left to lose?

Re: SMTP error 452

Not sure how related, but as the instruction is to put all email issues here in case the user software is giving unspecific responses....

Error from Thunderbird sending mail

Sending of the message failed.
An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded:
Unknown sender.
Please check the message recipient "xxxxxx@xxxxxxx.groups.io" and try again.

Sending from fixed IP, no VPN, PN account but with a me@mydomain.co.uk 'from' address, not a mailbox@username.plus.com one

Waited for 22:01 and still no go.

I have been sending a couple of mails a day to that same recipient from the same sender address for years

Re: SMTP error 452

Of course, if you're relaying from an SMTP server, the bounce messages will generate even more traffic, and then the bounces for the bounces...

I've just stopped my contribution to that by having my IP delisted by Spamhaus (for no more than a year, of course) and setting my server to send direct. It's a temporary partial solution but it would be better to follow the PN policy really.

It's still extant today, three days later.  I've just had another 'too many recipients' error, at about 11:54.  The same message went without problem at 12:01.  This is the only message I've tried to send today.

How much longer will it be before this quota problem is fixed?

I have asked that question.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

@Townman Did you also ask how long it will be before you get an equivocal answer to that question? 😀

Re: SMTP error 452

I suspect this is the problem with sending email I was having last Friday & Saturday that I thought I had fixed by re-entering my plusnet username/password for the SMTP outgoing server but then has been recurring sporadically over the last couple of days.

However at my first attempt to send an email today, to only one recipient, I was getting the same retry error. I managed to get the following info from the connection log so it seems like the same issue?

READ Sep 16 12:47:26.056 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelTLSv1_2] -- host:relay.plus.net -- port:465 -- socket:0x600003ffc360 -- thread:0x6000009101c0
452 <name@address-redacted> recipient rejected - too many recipient in last hour

Now that it's just passed 1pm, the email has sent with no problem.

So until there's a proper fix, is the work-round to only send emails just after the hour?

Apparently - which is a right pain if you send a number.

Re: SMTP error 452

I agree. I've been having problems on and off since Friday and initially thought it was user-error on my end. I only today managed to find a way to get more detail on the error (with Mac mail. use Connection Doctor and switch on logging).

You might stand a better chance ... though if everyone catches on, then the working window will shrink.

Re: SMTP error 452

Thanks for this. I'm still peeved that Plusnet didn't tell its customers that it would be migrating email and the first we'll know about it is 60 days before we are directly affected.

Re: SMTP error 452

This has been publicised fairly well.

It ought to have been transparent ... until one is scheduled for migration.  Unfortunately some of the preparation stages have not gone to plan.

Re: SMTP error 452

Actually the first some customers know about it is when the email service gets even worse than it was.
