Running Exchange server at home

Seeing as Google apps is now paid, along with Windows Live custom domains, I've set up an Exchange 2013 server at home.
I've got it working and can receive mail, I've pointed the MX record to my static IP.
I've got outgoing mail working, but my emails seem to be filtered as spam by gmail based accounts.
I think this could be due to rDNS (I have it set to another of my domains at the moment, I have a ticket open to change it over but that could take a while), but it could also be that the IP is registered to Plusnet in the RIPE database or something.
Is there anything other than setting the rDNS that I can do to avoid my mail being classed as spam?

You could add SPF records to the domain (unless it's hosted with Plusnet, as I don't think they've implemented TXT records yet?), set up DKIM and anything else that's been added over the years to say "Yes this IP address is the legitimate mail server for this domain".

I'd personally recommend you don't send email directly from your machine. Even if you take care to configure matching forward/reverse DNS etc. you'll not escape the fact that the IP we assign you will almost certainly be on a number of policy block lists like the one here. This means that you will probably encounter problems when sending messages to MTA's that spam-score or choosing to defer/reject mail from IP's on this list.
A much sounder solution would be to relay/smarthost outbound messages through the Plusnet relay servers.

Any help configuring the send connector in exchange 2013 to send via your relay?
It doesn't seem obvious...

It is only a matter of time/destination...
As Bob says, your IP will be listed on a number of blacklists and different destinations will attach different significance to such an entry.

If he's changed it to use the Plusnet relay it won't matter if his IP is on the lists.

My reading of post #6 was that an outbound relay hasn't been configured on the basis that the rDNS/TXT records had seemingly removed the spam trap triggering.

I read quite the reverse - he's done the relaying which has fixed the problem and so hasn't bothered adding rDNS and TXT

He's setup rDNS and TXT records and he believes outgoing email is not marked as spam.
Alternatively, with a couple of extra words and a comma:
I've not bothered [with configuring a relay] as, with rDNS and TXT records, my emails are no longer getting marked as spam
