Redirect / Blackhole problems

Over the last few weeks I have been having issues with redirects to blackhole-abuse…
Rather than going to the plusnet BH redirects for some addresses are being delivered to my mailbox. I have deleted and reinstated the redirects but they are still arriving.
I have even tried going to fasthosts (who forward mail from my domain to plusnet) and setting a forward for the unwanted addresses directly to plusnet blackhole-abuse, but it seems to make no difference.
Anyone else had this problem or knows of a solution?

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

Are the ones that are getting through marked as spam? If so you need to look at what you've said needs to be done with spam here: http://email.plus.net/

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

I don't have spam filtering turned on. I use multiple addresses from my domain (bbc@, amazontypesites@, raspberrypi@ etc) and when one is compromised I black hole it. I prefer this to a spam filter occasionally blocking mail it shouldn't.

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

Another thought: Do you have the catchall on? If so check the headers of the emails that arrive to check what Envelope-to says.

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

This sounds like a Fasthosts issue.
First, the header supplied have been altered (for obvious reasons which is fine), but to the point that I cannot tell what our network is meant to do with them.
We could do with a raw unfiltered copy. Can you provide them via a PM?
However, the reason I suspect it is Fasthosts. If you have gone to Fasthosts and set them to forward direct to the Blackhole, there is no logical way they could have reached your mailbox with us.
Fasthosts are taking a domain you own and moving them to a different address. We don't know about this domain, and the forwarded message is directed to blackhole, not your own address. As a result, it doesn't contact any information that would now allow our systems to think it is destined for you.
Have you accidentally setup a catch-all with Fasthosts that is going to your mail@ address with us?

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

Hi
Thanks for your response, in that particular example there is no forward set to blackhole from fasthosts. However the default catchall is set to forward to my mail@ account with you. What should it be set to?
If it helps I will send you the complete header from home this evening.
Cheers
Peter

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

Plusnet is only going to look at the name before the @ in the envelope to, which in this case is mail. It then looks at the mailboxes, aliases and redirects you've set up on Plusnet and takes the appropriate action.
If you want comparethemarket blackholed you either have to do that on Fasthosts or redirect it to comparethemarket@*snipped*.plus.com and then set up a blackhole redirect for comparethemarket on Plusnet.

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

@Jelv
There is no forward for comparethemarket@*snipped*.org.uk at fasthosts, so it is being caught by the fasthosts catch all which goes to mail@*snipped*.plus.com. There is a redirect at plunet to the black hole.... but I am still receiving messages to it.
@Phil Richardson
I am PM'ing you with the full header for a spam email to that address and one sent to that address from myself, maybe that might help.
Cheers

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

Can't you turn off the Fasthosts catchall? I really can't see the point of forwarding stuff from Fasthosts to mail@ if you've then set up a redirect to blackhole for 'mail'!

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

I have never said that there is a black hole redirect from mail@, if I did that I wouldn't get any mail at all....

Re: Redirect / Blackhole problems

Plusnet doesn't know about where the mail was addressed to when it arrived at Fasthosts, all their system knows is that it has received an email addressed to mail@*snipped*.plus.com. If you are not sending "mail" to the blackhole then you should see it everything Fasthosts redirect to mail@*snipped*.plus.com in your inbox (excepting if you do something different with spam).
