Really slow loading of emails

Is anyone else currently having issues with emails downloading VERY slowly?

When trying to load new emails on my iPad using the email app. I keep getting the message attached. I tried logging into my webmail via the internet and also saw the same message. Eventually they do load but it takes ages. I’ve gone back through old emails and deleted lots in case I am reaching my capacity but it hasn’t made any difference.

Can anyone help please?

Thank you.

Re: Really slow loading of emails

I can’t seem to edit my original post so I am adding the message I keep getting when checking for new emails:

Cannot Get Mail

The mail server “imap.plus.net” is not responding.

Verify that you have entered the correct account info in mail settings.

Server message “Courier-IMAP server shut down by signal.”

Re: Really slow loading of emails

Can you look at the mail account settings and increase the server time out to 2 minutes.

Re: Really slow loading of emails

Thank you for your reply.

I have looked at my account settings and cannot see anything referring to server time out, unfortunately.

Re: Really slow loading of emails

Hello,

Sorry about that I suspect that not all versions of Apple Mail has a server time out option.  I use so many different clients, recalling which does what can be confusing.

In the Apple Settings, under Mail, Accounts, there is a FETCH DATA option for each mail account - what is it set to for the account you are having difficulty with?

Setting in to FETCH and AUTOMATICALLY might ensure that the mail is there when you want it and you do not suffer time outs.

Is this over a WiFi connection?

Re: Really slow loading of emails

Thank you again.

The Fetch setting for my Plusnet account is set to ‘Fetch’ as opposed to ‘Manual’. Yes it’s using my home fibre broadband connection.

Re: Really slow loading of emails

Searching the internet for solutions, it appears that many people are having the same issue since updating their iPad to iOS 18, which I did a few weeks back, however my issue only started in the last few days.

Re: Really slow loading of emails

I will keep a watch on things - I am on 18.0.1 - email down load is at times a bit sluggish, but I have but that down to connectivity, rather than specifically email.
