Problem?

Is there a problem with email? I'm getting an error message, Outlook cannot connect to incoming email server. And when I try webmail, the Inbox is "empty", nothing loading, although it tells me there's an unread message.

Re: Problem?

I guess so. I am suddenly getting 'Connection refused' from mail.plus.net.

Re: Problem?

POP3 has stopped responding unless SSL is used. If you're using POP3 try changing your settings - see here: https://www.plus.net/help/email-guides/how-to-set-up-plusnet-email/

Haven't tried IMAP but could be the same issue

Re: Problem?

Same timeout with mail.force9.net   problem started around 12:30

Messages still being received / displayed in webmail and other IMAP clients, but POP3 unusable at present.

Re: Problem?

I'm also getting "Could not connect to server mail.plus.net; the connection was refused", but did manage to login on Webmail.

Re: Problem?

Same issue here with our 2 office PC's. Has anyone heard anything from the techs ref what the issue is and how soon it can be rectified?

Re: Problem?

I've changed POP3 to mail.plus.net Port 995  using SSL/TLS and it seems to be working OK. Fingers crossed !

Re: Problem?

Yep- just as I changed computer 1's incoming mail, computer 2 announced new mail. Well that was a wasted hour trying to figure out what went wrong.

Re: Problem?

Plusnet POP servers fell over, by the look of things.

Slightly erroneous info there, @gandb1 - you can still use non-SSL connections if you wish. This was a server failure.

Re: Problem?

OK, a server failure then. But it only affected non-SSL POP3 connections, so turning SSL on cured the problem.

Also, it's interesting that the setup guide no longer has the settings for non-SSL connections.

Re: Problem?

I don't know if your statement about it only affecting non-SSL connections is true or not, @gandb1 - I was in a phone call during the error period, which looked to be fairly short, according to my MW log, but you have no proof for that claim, and my experience would tend to argue against it - a POP server is a POP server, it doesn't check the security settings of individual clients.

Thanks for the update on the set-up guide though - useful.
