Re: Problem with relay.force9.net?

While I think of it, my work email is hosted by LCN. There do not appear to be any issues with SMTP authentication the LCN account. I invariably have to use the LCN SMTP to send my Force9 emails…

Re: Problem with relay.force9.net?

Just tried the Telnet suggestion. Basically the response came back connection lost? Tried with LCN mail server and got connected but I didn’t go any further.

I’ve also just changed the account password again, but this has made no difference. Every time I try and connect to the SMTP server, it says my username or password are not recognised. Puzzling… It feels like the SMTP server dies not have my details for some reason. That may not be what it is, but that’s what it feels like!

Re: Problem with relay.force9.net?

@Dickyp1 Sending mail I’m using relay.force9.net , port 587, SSL ON, username/password authentication with no problems.

When changing your password have you, by any chance, used any strange non alphanumeric characters ?

Re: Problem with relay.force9.net?

Thank you for your post Champnet. I have actually used a non alphanumeric character! About to change password again and just use normal alphanumerics…

Re: Problem with relay.force9.net?

New password with just letters and numbers… made no difference. Given that I’m trying to gain access on 3 devices, a PC & 2 IOS devices, which interestingly have no problem with the LCN servers, or Gmail, I have to conclude its something to do with my account at the plusnet end. All out of ideas. Will have to contact tech support again.

Re: Problem with relay.force9.net?

@Dickyp1 Sounds like a mismatch between account details and the MX server. At least you know the system is up and running.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.

Re: Problem with relay.force9.net?

Try without encryption.

There was a recent report of an issue with the SMTP server certificates.

Also encryption on port 587 should be STARTTLS not SSL.

Re: Problem with relay.force9.net?

Have tried with and without encryption. On my iPad I can only select SSL. Sadly, it still hasn’t made a difference. I’ll have to bat it over to tech and see if they can shine a light on the reason. Thank you Townman.

Thanks Champnet. I’ll mention the potential mismatch between the account details and the MX server with the tech Jedi tomorrow.

Ah on an iPad - in that case, it will work it out for itself.

Does the account verification succeed or fail during the account configuration process?
