Could you try logging in to webmail, clicking the cog icon in the bottom left hand corner and then selecting the compact option and then let us know if the deleted emails keep reappearing in the mail client after this please.
In regards to new mail coming through in clumps, does your mail client have a refresh rate/sync frequency set for a time period it will wait before checking for new emails and syncing up?
Could you also confirm what mail client you're using for this. Thanks.
