Plusnet relay.plus.net

Greenby hosted mail.plus.net is working ok, new messages are arriving.

We are seeing errors attempting to send via Plusnet hosted : relay.plus.net

We either see a prompt to re-enter the password ( it has not changed ).

Or

Task <name.name>@<account>.plus.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Testing the MS Outlook connection we get rejection of settings that were fine an hour :

Send test e-mail message: Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings.

About hour after my previous post the relay.plus.net failures cleared.

During this time Greenby SMTP mail.plusnet.enmail.co worked with the same credentials,
so we are aware of a Plusnet hosted relay.plus.net suffered and operating failure.

Until l see SMTPS and STARTTLS working perfectly on mail.plusnet.enmail.co it remains as a distant Plan B.

To add to the inconvenience this morning we have a Plusnet autoemail@plus.net reporting suspected spam from one of our email accounts & the effect of this is Plusnet ( not Greenby ) have blocked the a/c from sending via relay.plus.net and the credentials are rejected by relay.plus.net

We can see there is no spam sending, there is no backlash or failed deliveries and no curt replies.

If you are a Plusnet customer and encounter this the fix is in 2 parts :

1) Change the password for the email a/c in Greenby.com

2) Change to the same the password for the email a/c in https://www.plus.net/manage_my_mail/    
    to unlock relay.plus.net


Seeing the Greenby servers are not blocked, I reconsidered the idea of using mail.plusnet.enmail.co as an alternative SMTP but can't due to the Certificate error being rejected by the Gmail app that does not permit Certificate exceptions and will not allow SSL to be disabled.

This morning another Plusnet autoemail@plus.net reporting suspected spam / credentials compromised.

This time triggered by relay.plus.net refusing to accept via SMTPS an email to the accountant with a small spreadsheet attached, a task that has worked perfectly hundreds of times over the last decade or so,

Yet again relay.plus.net is rejecting credentials.  Causing passwords to need to be changed in 2 portals and on 2 devices to get back into service ... that is until we hit the next landmine.

Whatever Plusnet have changed in the last few week, is proving to be very inconvenient.

We did not find a ticket opened on this topic as expected from the Help Team's direct messages.

We have abandoned SMTP relay.plus.net it is too unreliable for every day use.
