I am getting the same. I was wondering, if it has to do with using Port 587, outgoing server SMTP.  If you change this back to Port 25, mail set without any problems.

I use Port 587 for sending mail, when using a VPN connection.

I was getting this error, when using my Plusnet IP address, not one from my VPN provider.

The problem has been fixed. A lookup now gives

IP Address 84.93.230.235 is not listed in the CBL.

It was previously listed, but was removed at 2017-07-07 11:27 GMT (1 hours, 6 minutes ago)

I have just looked up avasout07.plus.net  and it is black listed on BACKSCATTER and SORBUS SPAM.  If only PN had implemented SPF the risk of this might be eliminated!

Note to the poster who changes from port 587 to 25 - I very much doubt that was the resolution, rather I suspect that you hit a different SMTP server - relay.plus.net is a virtual address fronting many SMTP servers, not all of which are black listed.

• avasout01.plus.net is just on BACKSCATTER
• avasout02/5.plus.net are just on SORBUS SPAM
• avasout03/4/8.plus.net are on both
• avasout06.plus.net is on BACKSCATTER, SORBUS SPAM and OSPAM
• avasout09-20.plus.net are clean but only known to 9 black list services
• ...I stopped looking at 20 - more than 50% of the SMPT servers are clean
