Just sent 4 e-mails and not one has bounced... I'll try again tomorrow, but fingers crossed...

Incredible to think that this issue remains unresolved after all this time, and seems that a lot of users are affected.

@cerij101 I can see that this appears to be investigated by our incident management team still (Under ref: IMT-74).

Apologies for any inconvenience caused. We'll update you when we know more.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Plusnet Email servers giving random SMTP 550 errors for inbound emails

We're still working on this but due to the way our internal change process works it may take some more time I'm afraid.

Re: Plusnet Email servers giving random SMTP 550 errors for inbound emails

Are you saying that Plusnet found the problem but that it takes time to implement or that you guys still have no clue what the problem is?

The problem was raised 8 month ago!!

Re: Plusnet Email servers giving random SMTP 550 errors for inbound emails

I can confirm that this is still happening. Several more messages in the last week returned with the "Domain of sender address <address removed> does not exist". Strangely Plusnet's servers have no problem finding the domain to send the undeliverable notice! I presume that this is getting no priority because Plusnet's customers are unaware that they are not receiving some of their mail and therefore are not complaining about it. Perhaps this problem needs to be raised to Plusnet's users on social media. I for one am sick of Plusnet users complaining that we aren't answering their emails when we can't get the replies through to their mailboxes! We look bad to our members and Plusnet have been aware of the problem for almost a year now.

Hi @Octoink,

Sorry to hear that you are still having issues with this. We are still working on this issue, but as stated above we don't have a definitive resolution date. Once we have a fix we will be sure to let you know.

Re: Plusnet Email servers giving random SMTP 550 errors for inbound emails

By the time Plusnet address this, e-mail will be an outdated form of communication and we will all be communicating telepathically. In the meantime, it is simply tele-pathetic!

Re: Plusnet Email servers giving random SMTP 550 errors for inbound emails

Hi

Just wanted to throw more evidence into the ring. I have 2 friends that use plus net for their email address and about 50% of my emails to them bounce - and have done for some months. Here's the latest bounce from this morning.

Reporting-MTA: dns; magnolia.xssl.net
Action: failed
Final-Recipient: rfc822;neil.gow@REMOVED.plus.com
Status: 5.0.0
Remote-MTA: dns; mx.avasin.plus.net
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 #5.1.8 Domain of sender address <paul.baker@REMOVED.co.uk> does not exist

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
neil.gow@REMOVED.plus.com
host mx.avasin.plus.net [212.159.8.200]
SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<paul.baker@REMOVED.co.uk> SIZE=7738:
550 #5.1.8 Domain of sender address <paul.baker@REMOVED.co.uk> does not exist

The domain referred to has existed continuously since 1999.

It's worrying that plus net seem unable to get to the bottom of this. Embarrassed
