Trying to connect to webmail and just get
Waiting for portal.plus.net then eventually get a timeout with the error
Network Error (tcp_error)
A communication error occurred: ""
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.
For assistance, contact your network support team.

Also get same problem trying to log into the main Plusnet site to check service status.

Is there a problem with PlusNet home page and portal. Times out on both this morning?

Yep, we were having problems with them this morning. A service status was posted here: http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1278319766.htm
Should be on the way back up now.

webmail is back but plusnet member centre isn't.

I've just been in to the members centre but it was very slow.
