Over 1000 Mail delivery Failed Emails this morning

When turned on my PC this morning over a 1000 Mail failed delivery notices arrived in my Plusnet inbox on Thunderbird.

All stated Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently and all had a different email address, all unknown to me.

I never use Plusnet webmail but just receive the monthly plusnet billing info so have no idea what this is all about?

Someone, probably a spammer, has spoofed your email address. They are sending email purporting to be from you, so when some fail to be delivered, you get the delivery failure.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

You'll probably get a lot of emails complaining about the contents of the email you didn't send.

Nothing you can do, they'll eventually stop...........

Re: Over 1000 Mail delivery Failed Emails this morning

Thanks for the answers, quite few more still coming through so have stopped Thunderbird checking for Plusnet emails and will just delete all from webmail at some point.

How do they spoof my email and why so many?

It’ll be a bulk email advertising questionable services or products. Your email address is entered in the ‘reply to’ field easily done. Your address has probably been obtained from a legitimate trader who’s been hacked.

Thanks, did the check but my email address looks okay...

Hopefully the emails will fizzle out eventually...

"they'll eventually stop..........."

For some value of 'eventually'.

Following up on other observations.

I use a specific 'tailored' e-mail address for each and every commercial entity I deal with on-line. If the details get 'leaked' then I have a reasonable idea of which commercial entities have sub-standard digital security or break-ins. There's a highly interesting occurence which (if I disclosed) might attract attention of legal represenatives. Hence I'm awaiting further occurences/evidence.

My scheme is a small personal inconvenience (i.e. it requires some work/input on my part.)

There are times when that scheme becomes 'stressed'. Like when a commercial entitiy goes udders vertical and I get allocated a new provider of services. And account 'names' are represented as a specific e-mail address (who ever dreamt up that scheme?). But I'm wandering again...

(Hopefully I'm not upsetting anyone?).

That's an overly positive assessment IMO.

Anyone who’s worked professionally on e-Mail systems will confirm my comments.

Sometimes we do tend to over complicate things….

Polite question.

"Tuesday - last edited Tuesday"

Where's the 'edit' button? Obviously (from my perspective) a limited/restricted/hidden facility.

@greygit under post options on any post you make, for 20 minutes after you have first hit 'Post'.

"under post options on any post you make, for 20 minutes after you have first hit 'Post'."

Thx for that explanation. Appreciated. Other web forums have other 'rules' and the time limited option wasn't on my radar.
