Outgoing mail server

I am having a problem sending emails. I have set relay.plus.net to the recommended settings and when I attempt to send an email it says the server rejected the email address. The email is an attempt to send it to my own email address as a test

Re: Outgoing mail server

Welcome to the forums, @MelvilleR . I'm not the email expert on here, but a screenshot of the rejection message (with sensitive information removed) would help.

Re: Outgoing mail server

Typical helpful message - not! What email program are you using, and do you have a laptop/computer?

Re: Outgoing mail server

This all stems from changing my password. I am receiving mail but cannot send anything. Because I am not using plusnet for my internet I have tried adding my username/password but the server rejects that as well.

Re: Outgoing mail server

OK - that last post explains it (I think). You need to authenticate the sending address.

Re: Outgoing mail server

If you’re not a Plusnet customer it’s doubtful you’ll be allowed to send emails out through their servers....

Re: Outgoing mail server

Ooops, missed that, @Champnet - obviously you are correct, unless the OP applied for a 'free' email account on moving ISP.

Re: Outgoing mail server

Ah - OK, so this is somehow linked to your password change - I'll tag an 'email expert' for you - I'm out of my depth here.

@Townman - can you help, please?

Re: Outgoing mail server

All email only accounts for the last few years have had access to relay.plus.net even though the service is free of charge. It was done to level the playing field as we historically charged £1.06 for this, because since the ‘new’ billing system we made all email products free.

Try removing the mail account from your iPad/iPhone and reset it up afresh. Note that though if the existing incoming mail server is mail.plus.net not imap.plus.net then you may need to backup your emails first to a computer or cloud storage as it’s possible the iPad/iPhone may have downloaded your emails to itself and deleted them from the server, the server being webmail.plus.net

I hope this helps.
