Outgoing mail SMTP port 25 - alternative port ?

Hi,
Does anyone know if free-online has an alternative port to 25 for setting up outgoing email.
I get the following error when sending an email.
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10060
I understand this is could be caused by a firewall blocking this port.
many thanks.

They don't. Are you connect via free-online or are you out and about on another network and trying to use the free-online mail servers?

I am 'off network', I have followed the help pages for setting up email; I know it works on other networks as I had it working else where; just not the one I am trying to use now.

There is not alternative Plusnet port so you'd have to go through the other network to find out why they are blocking port 25.
Are you on three by any chance?

No, it is a University network so I expect they are tight on network security.
Looks like I'm going to have to use Webmail to send and Windows Live to receive.
Thanks for answering my question.

I'd have thought you might be all right receiving from Plusnet.
