No I don't want any Viagra!

I've been plagued by a flood of emails recently (the last couple of weeks), offering those little blue pills. They are predominately to two email addresses ony@ and ntony@mydomain. So a couple of days ago, I created a redirect on both of those addresses, redirecting them to the BlackHole (blackhole@abuse.plus.com).

The emails are still getting through! 😞

Any thoughts, team?

Tony...

Example of the most recent email is attached.

Re: No I don't want any Viagra!

Azureskies, I'm afraid you are going to struggle to get any response here as it would seem we are all in the same boat, I was with Madasafish and their email thingy had a very good spam filter which could be set on any part of the email message be it the 'to' 'from' or even 'subject'. Key words in all these sections would block the mail.  Now it appears we have nothing and as a result like yourself I have been bombarded with all sorts of rubbish, and although Outlook Express with block individual addresses this is not much good as the spammers only have to alter one letter/digit to get round it.

Typical addresses from today's batch.

Re: No I don't want any Viagra!

If you look in the email headers you'll find multiple addresses relating to the sender, From: is the one you see but there may also be Return-path:, Reply-to:. If any of those are different to the From, try putting them in the blacklist.

If you post what you use to read emails someone will tell you how to view the full headers.

@jelv

Any idea how to see the sender/header details in Windows 10 Mail app? It seems Microsoft have removed all ability to see this rendering the user open to abuse.

EDIT:

I just discovered quite by accident how to show the sender details, Microsoft hid this one!

(Applies to Windows 10 Mail app)

Clicking the little circle icon in the email preview window will reveal a pop out window with the sender details. I notice you can also use this box to email the sender directly or even view past email history with the same sender.

Re: No I don't want any Viagra!

That does not show all the possible email addresses that may be hidden in the full headers and from a Google search the only advice I can find is to ditch the crappy Windows Mail on Windows 10 and use a real mail client!

Re: No I don't want any Viagra!

@jelv

Yes it is true that the full headers cannot be seen but I'm hoping someone with a little intelligence might figure that out. Just because I haven't found it doesn't mean it's not hidden somewhere. I only discovered the bit above last night and I've been using the app for several weeks now.

Just because you've read something on Google doesn't mean your findings are correct. I'm going by my own experience with this app and apart from that obvious lack of header detail it happens to be a very good program so no I cannot agree with your statement. Windows 10 Mail app IS a real mail client however you might argue.

Re: No I don't want any Viagra!

@MKSlinky OK if you're so clever, you find out and post back how to view the full headers in Windows 10 Mail. I found loads of people asking the same question with loads of people saying it is not possible, but not one person posting how it could be done.

Re: No I don't want any Viagra!

@jelv

Yes I am clever but thankfully I don't need or want your advice! Why would I? Your assumption are not based on personal experience, they're based solely on what you've read? Yes I've read plenty of shock horror stories about Mail, same as I read your long winded post about why you left Plusnet, it's not like any of us can ignore it with your constant reminder in your signature. If you dislike Plusnet so much why do you spend your days on these forums? Seems to me you've cut off your nose to spite your face, either that or you just enjoy trolling!

Did I believe what you said in that post? No not really, I haven't experienced the problems you mentioned so I'm inclined to form my own views, exactly like I am doing with Mail.

Before you went off on one and tried attacking me you should have re-read your own advice..., in one of your posts above you said:

If you post what you use to read emails someone will tell you how to view the full headers.

My post was simply to say that I have now found a way of viewing the header in part but as for the full header it remains a mystery. Like you I have also found out that this feature doesn't yet exist in Mail but that certainly isn't a good argument for using a different email client. I'm always careful with my emails and who I respond to the same as I'm always careful about who's advice I listen to.

END OF!

App is definitely the right word to use as Windows 10 Mail is an abbreviated version of a proper email client.

I do use it myself where appropriate such as on a tablet but for a proper email client I use Outlook 2016.

Re: No I don't want any Viagra!

@Browni

You're entitled to your opinion but I think many people give it a bad press without good reason. I'll be the first to admit when Windows 10 first launched the Mail app was plagued with faults, I tried it and hated it but that's no longer true and plenty of people do like it now. I'm having no trouble with it whatsoever, it's extremely fast and the added features like syncing with Gmail Contacts & Calendar is a real bonus over the old Windows Live Mail I used previously. I have no need for a full blown client like Outlook.

I'm no phone geek but from what I gather Microsoft made the Mail app so it was light on resources enabling it to be used on a mobile phone. That wouldn't work if it is was a full blown bells and whistles email client. Sure it does still have a few missing features but it's perfectly adequate for most users.

There's two sides to every coin and no one person can be right about everything. We all learn to adopt what works best for us. Thumbs_Up
