I have just got a new iphone from Tesco mobile (which uses O2 network).
I can recieve emails fine but I cannot send them. I have gone through the setup guides, searched the forum (I am not on the 3 network) but can't find a solution.
I get an error message every time "The user name or password for SMTP usermame+mailbox name@relay.plus.net is incorrect."
I have double checked the settings several times and I can't get it to work - anyone else been able to solve this?
The iphone defaulted to a port other than port 25 for the SMTP server ( I can't remeber what it was) is port 25 the right one?

Under the SMTP settings it says user name and password are optional - no they are not! Leave them blank and everything works.

Quote from: Peter Authenticated SMTP uses your portal login details (i.e. for your default mailbox) not username+mailboxname.
It can use either - it was something that was added I think in response to the very vocal protests about having to give the main account password to other people using mailboxes on the account.

If you're connecting via our network then you don't need a username/password to send. If you're not though then you will (unless the phone/Internet provider you're connecting to automatically intercepts and delivers email on port 25, which is unlikely).

If your outgoing email is not a three email address you have to use the server smtp-mbb.three.co.uk

You can send email via the three nretwork with your plusnet address as the sender providing you use the correct server. You don't have to use webmail.
