Re: Move to Greenby and pop email

@Townman

No indeed. I was mainly interested by their surprising insistence and to alert others to the inconsistency.

FWIW the "Server settings quoted on my Greenby Dashboard> EMail Domains>settings give

Incoming Server Address

Protocol

IMAP Port

Outgoing Server Address

SMTP Port

imap.free-online.net

IMAP

993 (Encryption Enabled)

relay.free-online.net

465 (Encryption Enabled)

If you prefer to use the POP protocol rather than IMAP then please use port 995 with Encryption turned on

Thank-you for all your work and advice here.

Re: Move to Greenby and pop email

My force9 mailboxes that I access using Microsoft Outlook 16.0 were moved to Greenby yesterday resulting in both send and receive errors. To cut a long story short I have made the following changes to fix the problem.

1) Change email address from [mailbox]@[username].force9.co.uk --> [mailbox]@[username].f9.co.uk

2) Change user name format from [username]+[mailbox] --> [email address], see above.

I changed just about everything else before I discovered that only the above were necessary. Therefore, the settings that I am using are as follows: -

Email Address: [mailbox]@[username].f9.co.uk

Incoming Mail Server (POP3): mail.force9.net

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): relay.force9.net

User Name: [mailbox]@[username].f9.co.uk

Password: {changed to meet Greenby requirements but likely to have been unnecessary}

[Tick] My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication

(select) Use same settings as my incoming mail server

Server port numbers:

  Incoming server (POP3) 995

     [Tick] This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL/TLS)

  Outgoing server (SMTP) 587

     Use the following type of encrypted connection: STARTTLS

Server Timeouts: 1 minute

Re: Move to Greenby and pop email

There is another difference between Greenby settings and the old plusnet ones.

With plusnet the username was just the bare account name e.g. fred999

With Greenby the username has to be fred999@fred999.free-online.net i.e. full email address

@wchurch

The aberration between force9 and f9 is reported to have been fixed.  You should be able to return the settings to what they were.

I think you meant fred999@fred999.free-online.co.uk

This applies only to secondary mailboxes - logging onto the default mailbox will still work using the account-name as the credentials.  There is much to be said for forcing the use of the email address in all circumstances ... especially as that is the default presumption of many of the "I think I know what I am doing better than you..." email clients which offer "help" by removing choices from the user.

@dave / @plusnettony was this change intentional or is it WIP with Greenby?
