Re: Mobile phone set up for e mail

Hi
My new phone is a Samsung Galxy Mini. Since posting this the problem has been resolved so:
My ISP is Force9 Plusnet. My Mobile phone provider is Three. I tried to set up the phone using POP3. I used the Plusnet Ingoing and outgoing server details. Having spoken at length to a specialist email team from 3 I finally found out that the phone had to be set up using Plusnet POP3 server  for Incoming and [b]Three Server for the Outgoing..
It now works perfectly. I also discovered that the Port 25 is normally blocked to allow for special traffic. This needs to be checked and a new port allocated if necessary.
I have repeated this here as I suspect I am not the only one having this problem.

Re: Mobile phone set up for e mail

It's a well known issue that Three block access on port 25 to anything other than their own smtp server. They have 2 servers, smtp.three.co.uk and smtp-mbb.three.co.uk, you should use the 2nd one as that will allow you to use your Force9 email address as the sender wheras the 1st one will not.
Some ISP's provide access to their own smtp servers on a different port to get round this problem but I'm afraid ( at the moment ) PlusNet do not, so you are stuck with using three's server ( which can be a bit flakey sometimes ).
