MX Record change

I run my own SMTP server and for years have had Plusnet route my Plusnet mail via SMTP to my static IP address. I would now like to route this mail via my AntiSpam provider and would therefore like to change my MX records for username.plus.com. I have tried requesting this via the online chat, but am not sure they unstood what I was trying to do and ultimately said that it cannot be done 😞

Can anyone advise if they have had this done previously?

I have had rDNS entries updated in the past without issue so don't see why I cannot have the MX records for my account also updated. Any Plusnet staff care to comment?

Many thanks.

Re: MX Record change

@shamus, you might not be able to achieve this, it all depends on what the antispam vendor can accommodate.

The only control you have is over the destination IP address of your MX record:

smtp-mail.jpg

That will do this:

                              MX mail.username.plus.com
mail.username.plus.com. A <ip_address>

If you need to add specific hostnames rather than an IP address, then you're out of luck I'm afraid Sad

Re: MX Record change

Many thanks for the response @bobpullen

I have worked around the issue by adding one IP address that corresponds to one of the hosts required by the antispam vendor. This works but provides no resilience in the event that this particular host does not respond.

I take it there is no way to have the MX records manually added?

Sadly not. Even if I could do this, I'm fairly certain the system automation would overwrite your zone file each evening.
