MAAF freenetname needs authentication then keeps asking for password

My friend (who.is not techy) has had a freenetname a/c since they first started.
He can receive emails ok.
When he tries to send them, the error message indicates that he should
Have the authentication box ticked.
When he does this and tries to send the email he keeps getting asked
for his password.
How can I get him out of this loop?
Thanks for any help....

I'd suggest he get in touch with support so they can check things are working as they should. Have their been any recent changes to the account?

Re: MAAF freenetname needs authentication then keeps asking for password

I had a similar problem a year ago. It seems like me when he attempts to log into his webmail via the website his password is not recognised despite it being the correct one, he cannot log in to raise a ticket.
I don't want to start changing his password as he won't receive his emails then, and also when it happened to me I could still not log in.
MAAF don't allow me to raise a ticket on his behalf via my email address.
Bob, can I msg you his email address - would that be permissible?

Yes, feel free.
In doing so, it would also be helpful to know:

  • The outgoing server address being used

  • The username being used for outbound authentication

  • Which Internet provider they're connecting from

Re: MAAF freenetname needs authentication then keeps asking for password

Finally tracked it down to being an inconsistency in the use of:
a) the Username e.g. username@domain.freenetname.co.uk
b) and the fact that apparently any emails sent to  whatever@domain.freenetname.co.uk
    end up at that inbox.
So the lesson learnt is that when specifying the Outlook mail attributes you must use the full username
and not whatever (which may be your christian name or nickname for instance) !!
Thank you Bob for your message that made me realise that.... STAR as ever!
