Kindle fire HD sending and receiving mail.

Hi,
Has anyone  any idea how to set up a Kindlefire HD to receive and send e -mail from Plusnet server. Have gone thro  normal set up with both imap and pop3 to no avail.
Would be grateful for any help.
  Cheers.

Re: Kindle fire HD sending and receiving mail.

Are you trying to connect via WiFi on your home connection or by mobile internet?
Do you get any error messages when you try to receive and send e-mail messages?

Re: Kindle fire HD sending and receiving mail.

Hi Longriver,
I would be interested to know how you manged to do that. I'm unable to set the O/G (SMTP) server to port 0 on the Kindle mail setup, so it keeps resetting me?

Re: Kindle fire HD sending and receiving mail.

Hi folks,
well I appear to have answered my own question. Found the answer (subject to testing) in another thread
apparently port 0 and port 587 now both work for Plusnet SMTP server port numbers.
KindleFire HD setup has accepted port 587 so here we go off to test now  ..........

Re: Kindle fire HD sending and receiving mail.

Hello  there,
well only a partial success  Huh I am able to send emails from Kindle
but I don't appear to be receiving any. Messages which have been sent to my
PN email address dont appear on the Kindle, but if I  log into my pc email
(Thunderbird) application I can see the messages in my in tray.
I have currently set up the Kindle as a POP3 client which is the way my
Thunderbird account is set up any  suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Kindle fire HD sending and receiving mail.

Unless set to 'leave messages on server', using POP3 will download the email to the machine that requested it and remove it from the server, so no other device will see it.
The best solution for using the same email account on multiple devices is to use IMAP on all devices.
If you change the Kindle to use IMAP, and nobble the POP3 account in thunderbird  (e.g. change the server name to something invalid).
Then create a new IMAP account up in Thunderbird,  you should be able to copy the messages from your local inbox back to the servers inbox.
Assuiming this worked, and both devices see all the messages, it should be safe to delete the POP3 account from Thunderbird.

Re: Kindle fire HD sending and receiving mail.

Hi kmilburn,
thanks for feedback. I note what you say about POP3 vs IMAP. I have also been looking on the Amazon Kindle forum
and it looks as if this could be an issue with the inbuilt email client on the KindleFire. i am going to try another email
app for the KindleFire. Watch this space  Sad

Re: Kindle fire HD sending and receiving mail.

Hi folks,
just set up a email app for the KindleFire called K9 which seems to work like a dream with the same
settings I had for Thunderbird.
Now I need to look in to the POP3 vs IMAP options
many thanks
