Hi
I have had problems with a company that have regularly sent me emails with attachments that have been fine for months but then suddenly the attachments
are not attached. They have come back to me with the following queerie : NB Anna is the girl sending me the e-mails with the missing attachments.
Quote:
Can you check what your server limit on attachments is ?
All Anna’s attachments’ were under 15 mb, and I verified they were transmitted
We limit attachment to 15 MB, the issue could be with your email provider
This seems very odd to me as i have no problems with any other e-mails or attachments only from this one company and their IT bloke it appears is trying to say it is a problem my end
Can anyone shed any possible light on this as i think he is wrong.
By the way i am using Incredimail
Many Thanks........Mike

As with the majority of mail systems, messages over a nominal size (sorry, don't have the figure to hand, so it's very vague I acknowledge) will be blocked at our mail gateway borders. That is to say, they will be rejected with a message to indicate they are to large, you will not receive the message and all being well with the senders configuration, they will receive a bounce.
With our systems there is an additional measure in that virus detection takes place. If this occurs, the platform will quarantine the message and send you a notification to allow you to ignore is dequeue the message. The notification message will not be the original, but one advising instructions and advise about the message we have stored.
Neither will cause the original message to come through without the attachment.
Are you able to copy and paste the headers from the message without the attachment? (though please feel free to edit (recommended) out yours and the senders email address).
http://www.haltabuse.org/help/headers/
The headers will contain key indications if an attachment was ever present. It's generally something that cannot be fully removed.

I note that this step (from mailclean.xxx to mx.ptn-ipin01.plus.net) took nearly half an hour. Something odd about this suggests that "mailclean.xxx with XWall v3.46" may have interfered with the message. Mailserve reports that there was an attachment ("X-MS-Has=Attach: yes"), and XWall is set to automatically block something ("X-XWALL-BCKS: auto"). If this is significant, then the attachment was lost before the message got to Plusnet.

The maximum total size of an email accepted by Plusnet is 100MB. This is for the message and for all attachments (not each individual attachment) and you also need to remember that emails are Mime encoded; this increases the size of the email so the effective maximum size is around 85MB. The size shown by the email client for the message is usually correct.
