IMAP server down?

I am unable to get e-mail on my WIndows 10 PC (Windows 10 client) or my iPAd.

Last email on the PC is 20:10 yesterday

PC reports:

We're having a problem connecing to imap.plus.net please try later  0x8007274c

webmail works OK

There would be lots of posts here if there was a problem with imap.plus.net. So I think that can be ruled out. Since webmail works OK, your email account seems to be OK. That suggests it's a local problem you are experiencing.

The common element of a problem affecting both your PC and iPAD is the router. Have you tried restarting that?

Thanks. I tested webmail on a different connection, doh!

Turns out that iPAd and PC are unable to access the web. Power cycled the router. same thing.

Got on to Plusnet; they said:

, "it looks like the issue was being caused by the way the automated line management was running"

and reset the connection, requesting 2 to 24 hours for it to stabilise

After that a few websites like Google and Wikipedia work just fine, but others time out. IMAP still fails.

Speedtest.net mostly worked and delivered downlink 6 to 17 Mbps and solid 0.8 uplink with ping 29 to 61 (measurements 90 minutes after the reset)

Router is now unplugged for >= 65 minutes as suggested in posts on this topic (some websites work).

Footnote regarding the connection (able to access some websites like facebook but timing out on 99% others):

90 minutes with the router unpowered did not solve the connection problem

Changing from Plusnet to Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8) did not solve it

Restarting router and PC didn't help

Plusnet is now sending a replacement router.
