Re: IMAP IDLE & SMTP Auth.

Are you still finding that IMAP IDLE is working on K9 with PlusNet emails?

Re: IMAP IDLE & SMTP Auth.

I've just configured a Plusnet account using K9 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and it seems to be pushing email to me.

Re: IMAP IDLE & SMTP Auth.

Dunno - it always seemed to be flaky at best - there is a K9 setting "Refresh IDLE connection" that I played with - it always seemed to work for an hour or so then give up.
I've moved over to my stock email package now as it (seems) to offer better Exchange connections, and I am starting to retrieve work email via my phone (in order to keep my monthly phone hand out!)

Re: IMAP IDLE & SMTP Auth.

It does seem to be intermittent. Is it still working OK for you, Bob?

Re: IMAP IDLE & SMTP Auth.

The real question, surely,  isn't why is it intermittent, but why does it work at all, if PN haven't switched on IMAP IDLE?

I've deleted the account now but it was working for the best part of yesterday. I'll try and get and find out exactly how things are set up server-side ...

Re: IMAP IDLE & SMTP Auth.

Actually, the intermittent part was the app turning off push email. Not sure why it did that.
Have you found out how things are set up on PlusNet's servers? Hopefully the "colossal ask" has been answered!

Re: IMAP IDLE & SMTP Auth.

To be honest, apart from a possible slight battery saving, I don't really see the point of push email. Now I know that IMAP IDLE isn't actually push email, I think I'll go back to polling.
I would still like to know whether it's going to be a permanent feature of PlusNet's email system though.
