I have a current Plusnet broadband contract and have been a Plusnet customer for some years. I arrived via the Freenetname->Brightview->Madasafish->Plusnet route, so have my own domain name, originally supplied by Freenetname and currently maintained by Plusnet/Madasafish. I have always relied on the email and domain name services, which have been provided continuously since March 2000.
I currently have three email addresses, which are as follows (let's say my name is Fred Bloggs for the purpose of illustration):
- Core Plusnet Email: pnuser@pnuser,plus,com
- (never normally used, but have accessed it for testing recently)
- Main Freenetname Address: freddy@mydomain.co.uk
- (my absolutely essential, everyday address using my Freenetname supplied domain)
- Raw Freenetname Address: fbloggs@freenetname.co.uk
- (occasionally used to avoid bounce-back when sending to gmail users)
Greenby sent me a "welcome" message on January 21st, following which I successfully logged onto their website. There, I can see my pnuser@pnuser,plus,com details and can access this email address via their webmail service.
However, there is no sign of either freddy@mydomain.co.uk or fbloggs@freenetname.co.uk. Neither is their any sign that my domain name has been transferred yet.
Whilst pnuser@pnuser,plus,com stopped being accessible via Plusnet's webmail from the day of the transfer (as you would reasonable expect), I can still currently access fbloggs@freenetname.co.uk via the Plusnet webmail, which tells me that it hasn't been transferred yet.
I don't know how to access freddy@mydomain.co.uk via webmail, so can't test this, but presume it's not moved either.
Via Outlook, I am still receiving (and sending) emails normally via my two main addresses, so I deliberately waited a while before raising this issue to allow for any "work in progress" to be completed. As six days have now passed, it now looks as if my overall account has been split in two between Plusnet and Greenby. My immediate concern is that my most important addresses (freddy@mydomain.co.uk and fbloggs@freenetname.co.uk) are now in no-mans land and are at risk of being lost. Same is true of the domain.
What is the situation here?

.you don't have an overall account, you have two essentially separate ones,
a Plusnet one with your account.plus.com email addresses
A freenetname one which has the freenetname email and also hosts your domain
Transfer to Greenby is in on an account basis and in being done in stages. Accounts with hosted domains haven't been transferred yet and will be some of the last to be so.
So basically your freenetname account and hosted domain are still with Plusnet

Thanks for responding so promptly, MisterW.
That sort of confirms what I suspected might be the case. I was aware that accounts with hosted domains were to be some of the last in the queue, which was why it caught me by surprise when Greenby sent me the "welcome message". The impression that I had was that one's whole email "bundle" would be transferred as one lump and wasn't expecting the plus.com segment to be treated separately.
In connection with this, I mentioned that I have been using Plusnet's webmail to check where my account is actually located. How do I use webmail to access my freddy@mydomain.co.uk Freenetname linked account? I've tried accessing it via webmail, but my logon details are not recognised.
Whilst I have never normally used webmail, this could become important should I have difficulty accessing via Outlook during/after the transfer (can send, but not yet receive via the already transferred pnuser@pnuser,plus,com address using Outlook).

I'm not entirely sure about freenetname hosting but normally the mailboxes are common between domain addresses and native account addresses . It's a long time since I had a Plusnet hosted domain but I thought it was possible to login to the mailbox with either the domain email address or the native account address. It MAY be that webmail will only accept the native account address ?

I had wondered about that also. I've only ever used either Outlook Express, or proper Outlook to access my emails normally, so I've never tried webmail of any kind until very recently. A while after I'd received the "We are making changes to your email" notice from Plusnet, I thought it might be wise to at least have a look at webmail and see how it worked. That's when I discovered that I couldn't logon using my domain name linked email details.
Perhaps one of the other Superusers might know some more about this - Townman or PlusnetTony perhaps?

Basically, as MisterW says,
I've checked your account and, as you suspected, can see the domain saftely hosted on a legacy account. you need those details to log in on webmail.
Remember for your domain, login with your Freenetname email address (i.e. joelboggs@freenetnname.co.uk and choose Plusnet in the drop down at webmail.plus.net.
In Outlook Express, go to Tools, Accounts, Mail and you should see your accounts listed. Double click, or clicked Edit (or similar) on the relevant option and you'll see your username.

Hi PlusnetTony
I have two Freenetname associated addresses:
- Raw Freenetname Address: fbloggs@freenetname.co.uk
- Main Freenetname Address: freddy@mydomain.co.uk (uses my Freenetname supplied domain)
I can access the "raw" Freenetname address via Plusnet's Webmail with no problem, selecting Plusnet in the drop down at webmail.plus.net as you say.
However, the same method does not work for my "main" Freenetname address - the one that uses my domain name. Webmail simply rejects the logon as being not recognised.
I find this odd as, apart from the actual address itself, all other settings for both addresses are absolutely identical in my Outlook programme (server names, port numbers, authorisation, security and encryption settings, etc) and both have worked fine (and still do) for over 25 years on a daily basis.
Whilst I have never traditionally used Webmail, I feel it is important to get this working to have as a backup during/after the Greenby transition, should I experience any problems accessing via Outlook.
Any further ideas?

When you've logged in at fbloggs@freenetname.co.uk you'll automatically see all your freddy@mydomain.co.uk emails. It's possible you'll need to set up an identity to send as the domain as the default will be FNN.

@plusnettony wont the login need to be freddy@freenetname.co.uk to see freddy@mydomain.co.uk emails ?
