How can this be so slow?

So the award winning Plusnet is unable to send an email to an existing contact because it is running so slowly that it times out.
My contact is only some 10 miles away. Maybe I should get a carrier pigeon.
If you lot won awards, then the rest must be pretty dire indeed!
