Hacked

  although i dont use the PN Email  , i thought i would post this here.
My BT email was hacked    from Vietnam 2 days ago & all my contacts received spam emails asking them to make easy money from your PC at home. needless to say i changed my log in details 
Firstly i wondered HOW  ?? i have no idea but i do have a IP address , so what do i do about the IP , who knows how to block a IP ?

Did the subject read : "Single Mom Makes $89,844/Yr in Her Spare Time on The Computer Without Selling Anything" ?
Seeing loads of these on people Yahoo and BT accounts through the groups I'm subscribed to.

I've seen a resurgence of this happening (I used to be a Moderator on Freegle/Freecycle so I'm subscribed to around 40 groups on Yahoo) - lots of people hacked by the previous exploit a couple of months ago then it all went quiet.
I've seen 5 or 6 of these a day through the groups (which have got through) and a couple a day directly to me off the groups. I've also seen some pretty computer savvy people get caught out by the hackers so you're not alone.

My brother's Yahoo account was similarly hacked into - and he used to work in IT so should have had a decent password. Luckily I spotted it soon after it had happened - since I received a Spam email - and he was able to get into the account and change the password.

I vaguely remember the issue down to cookie hijacking or a java exploit (or both). Just visiting the site is enough to compromise your security.
Touch wood I haven't been affected yet but its easy to be complacent.

Don't yahoo use 2 step/factor authentication?
Any provider/company that cares about it's users security should be, IMO.

I think the reason BT-Yahoo email accounts are being hacked is that BT spent quite a long time issuing new clients with a standard password, a word followed by a few numbers.  The word was always the same; I'm not sure about the numbers.  But this makes these passwords very easy to crack by brute force if they were not changed from the original one.  You can change the password by logging on to your BT account at the BT-Yahoo web site.
