Same here - still seeing this almost daily, along with members with PlusNet addresses complaining bitterly that they haven't received a reply to their email query despite it having been answered within minutes but bounced by PlusNet with "Domain of sender address does not exist". Getting really sick of this after nearly a year of apparent complete disinterest from PlusNet regarding the service they are (not) providing to their customers.

I've checked and it's reported following a change that this issue should be resolved. As you're all still having issues we've added your posts to the problem and it's being sent back for review. We'll update you once we have something.

PM sent with details of another rejection yesterday in case it helps with tracing the problem.

Seems to be totally broken today.
host relay.plus.net[212.159.9.107] said: 550 <xxx@xxxx.xxx.xx> sender rejected - invalid domain (no MX or A record) (in reply to MAIL FROM command)
Edited to add : It eventually worked after repeated attempts.
I assume its the PN servers losing access to a reliable DNS server. I send email out under my own domain which is registered through FVS who seem to have a pretty robust DNS system.
Moderator's note by Mike (Mav): Personal information (email) removed from a public forum (to an area that staff can see).

I have also been getting intermittent Mail Delivery errors, especially during the last week:
"Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 #5.1.8 Domain of sender address <a@b.c> does not exist"
These have occurred on Nov 13, 15, 16.
The most interesting was an email sent by a@b.c to one of my plusnet email addresses, let's call it x@z.plus.com, which was also bcc'd to another of my plusnet email addresses, let's call that y@z.plus.com (z represents my Plusnet Username). The one to x@z.plus.com got through, the one to y@z.plus.com failed with the 550 error, saying that <a@b.c> does not exist.
Then, of course, plusnet sent a message to <a@b.c> to say "Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender". The domain b.c is hosted external to plusnet and managed by me and is set up to forward mail for a@b.c to y@z.plus.com and this got through!
So the original bcc'd copy from a@b.c to y@z.plus.com failed because plusnet said <a@b.c> does not exist
but the "Mail delivery failed" message, also from a@b.c to y@z.plus.com got through!
If it would help the Plusnet Help Team to sort out this problem I will email these examples.

Does the failing to address always fail? When it fails is the inbound email server identified?

@Townman
I agree that the issue is intermittent, although it has been worse over the last week, and it happened again yesterday (2018-11-18) after I had posted Message 52.
The failing 'To' address does not always fail.
For example, I have two almost identical emails both sent from a@b.c to the same email address at z.plus.com (z represents my Plusnet Username).
On 2018-11-15, To x@z.plus.com, Bcc y@z.plus.com - this one got through to both x and y
On 2018-11-18, To x@z.plus.com, Bcc y@z.plus.com - this one got through to y but the one to x got "Mail delivery failed"
(x on 2018-11-18 was exactly the same as x on 2018-11-15, y on 2018-11-18 was exactly the same as y on 2018-11-15)
I probably need some help interpreting the details behind the emails but as far as I can tell the inbound email server for the one that failed is not identified. The ones that get through have inbound servers of:
On 2018-11-15, To:
Received: from [212.159.8.109] (helo=avasin01.plus.net)
by inmx17.plus.net with esmtp
On 2018-11-15, Bcc:
Received: from [212.159.8.109] (helo=avasin19.plus.net)
by inmx17.plus.net with esmtp
On 2018-11-18, To:
Received: from [212.159.8.109] (helo=avasin19.plus.net)
by inmx19.plus.net with esmtp

Just had one sending to my brother so it went out through PN to his domain which actually forwards it back into PN's system and it died on the return leg saying that my sender domain didn't exist.
Why can't you fix this PlusNet? What have you done to your mail systems that makes them unstable?

Hi @SteveA
Do you know which inbound server was involved?

This thread is about email using non PN domains (for example mine) and when you try to relay through relay.plus.net it fails with:
<xxxx@mxxx.com>: host relay.plus.net[212.159.9.107] said: 550 <xxx@tty.org.uk> sender rejected - invalid domain (no MX or A record) (in reply to MAIL FROM command)fWhen the sender domain (tty.org.uk in my case) has an MX and and A record.
Your SPF record is
"v=spf1 +a +mx +ip4:81.27.85.25 +include:madasafish.com ~all"
Your A record is 212.159.61.36 which isn't a mail server and your MX is pointing to easy-internet so you are relying on the +include:madasafish.com
Their SPF is
"v=spf1 include:_spf-internal.madasafish.com include:_spf-internal2.madasafish.com include:_spf-external.madasafish.com -all"
and the SPF for those includes are:
"v=spf1 ip4:84.93.238.165 ip4:84.93.229.196 ip4:84.93.238.117 ip4:84.93.229.142 ip4:84.93.238.118 -all"
"v=spf1 ip4:212.159.14.0/24 ip4:84.93.230.224/27 ip4:212.159.9.109 ip4:212.159.8.109 ip4:212.159.8.108 ip4:212.159.9.108 -all"
"v=spf1 ip4:62.7.242.139 ip4:62.7.242.140 ip4:62.239.224.97 ip4:62.239.224.98 ip4:62.239.224.99 ip4:213.162.97.76 -all"
None of those include the IP 212.159.9.107 from the failure message.
However the SPF for the include _spf-internal2.madasafish.com looks as if that might be the problem. The IPs given are for portalrelay.plus.net and relay.metronet.co.uk. 212.159.9.107 is relay.plus.net.
It looks like Plusnet need to add 212.159.9.107 and 212.159.8.107 to the SPF record.

Are you talking about your own domain or username.plus.com?
If it is the latter it is not going to happen. You should relay outgoing messages through Plusnet's servers.

My A record points to the IP address server of my server as it should
The MX records point to FVS who act as an incoming email relay for me.
My setup is:
Mail Client -> Local Email Server -> relay.plus.net -> wherever the email needs to go.
As PN no longer do domain / mail hosting (I used to be with JTN) my incoming email route is
Wherever it is coming from -> FVS -> Local Email Server -> Email Client
I added the SPF when my wife's organisation started rejecting email without a valid SPF and I used the one that PN documented.
So if the include _spf-internal2.madasafish.com record is wrong then hopefully PN can fix it and that would fix the issues.
I wonder if this issue is only affecting people who have SPF configuration in place.
