Hi
As secretary of a large organisation I have to send out emails through a spreadsheet database. I realise this may look like spam so only try to send 20-30 at a time. However in the last week some emails are being bounced back and on first appearance seem to be ones to BT addresses. If it helps this is the reply:
Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** qd@btinternet.com ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .

I've altered the relevant email addresses for security purposes.
Can you let me know what I can do to fix the problem?
Many thanks

Hi there @Crewman1948,
From what you've sent a couple of possible causes spring to mind as it looks as though something is getting identified by the 'btinternet' servers as possible spam.
Firstly and most obviously it could be flagging something such as an image, file, or hyperlink which it believes is spam.
Does the email contain anything like this? And has it been recieved without issue by anyone not using a btinternet address?
Secondly I can see you are using a domain to send your emails that ends in .co.uk. Would you be using a domain we provide or that of a 3rd party e.g 123reg.
It might be worth trying to send from webmail directly to see if that goes through.
Realistically it doesn't seem like its anything we aren't allowing through, so it is very likely its either the content being rejected or an issue with the domain you are sending through.
Let us know is any of this helps.

Thanks for your reply Matt. For your info the code in the spreadsheet shows I'm using relay.plus.net and Port 25 as my outgoing server. I use Thunderbird as my normal email account with the same outgoing server and emails to "bt" emails are going through on that. I've seen in other posts that people use Port 587. Would that make a difference? I'm not technical enough to know what else in the spreadsheet could make a difference.
By the way I do send emails with attachments but the ones bouncing back at the moment are plain emails and does only seem to be bt addresses affected. My domain address is registered with 1and1 but that shouldn't make a difference should it?
Many thanks
Ian

Hi again
Since my last post have done some investigating and saw
Reporting-MTA: dns; avasout06
could be the problem. I switched off the "Mail Shield" in Avast and the emails went through ok so that appears to have been the cause. Now I just have to find out why?

An interesting development, @Crewman1948 and I'm glad you've narrowed it down.
Let us know if there's anything else you need - as things stand, it looks as though the mail shield was blocking the mail send.
Best wishes
Dave
