Email while travelling

We caravan a lot and while we are out and about, I can receive emails but I am unable to send them as I am using another mobile broadband provider.  Does Plusnet have a provision to allow one to send emails when one is on the move by perhaps changing the port or another SMTP?  Unfortunatley due to the nature of the emails i cannot use webmail etc.  Presently I use Outlook.  Thanks.

Re: Email while travelling

If you turn on authentication using you main Plusnet account name and password you can send emails from anywhere - unless the port is blocked by the network you are on. Three block use of anyone else's SMTP server.

Re: Email while travelling

As far as I know, nearly all ISPs do not allow you to sent emails if you are not connected to their server, but it is easy to get round this.
Set up a new account in Outlook to use with your mobile broadband supplier.  Use the PlusNET mail server set-up to collect your emails, mail.plus.net (POP3), and the mobile broadband supplier to send emails (SMTP).  Change the "User information" email address to your Plusnet email and even though you are sending from your other supplier it will appear as coming from Plusnet.
I do exactly this for my emails.  I have several email accounts and this works fine.

Re: Email while travelling

That doesn't work on Three by default as they block sending from any email address outside their network. To get round that you have to use smtp-mbb.three.co.uk

Re: Email while travelling

I am with Three but Three's SMTP is a bit unreliable.  The biggest issue is with Outlook.  You select Three as the default SMTP, but Outlook keeps rreverting back to the Plusnet SMTP..  Apparently ther is no work around or update for thsi problem.

Re: Email while travelling

Basically you are stuck with Three - they block you accessing Plusnet's SMTP.

Re: Email while travelling

If Outlook defaulted to the Three SMTP and stayed there until you changed it, it would not be so bad.

Re: Email while travelling

Would using a separate mail client for sending that is configured for Three only and hence couldn't flip to Plusnet as it didn't know about it be an option?

As I have said in my Reply#2, I think this is the case with most providers.  It is not a Three or Plusnet problem.
The method in Reply#2 should work without problem.
