Re: Email server problem?

No problem yesterday but passwords being rejected this morning. Seems to be an intermittent problem. (Using Apple's Mail program.)

Re: Email server problem?

I'm on BT Business with fixed IP and have used this for years so looks like something else has gone wrong.

Re: Email server problem?

Bob,
I'm getting the Captcha from my office in Gloucester (which was in the UK the last time I checked ;))
ISP is Griffin and http://www.ip-adress.com/ says I'm in the UK
Your IP Address Location: in ip address flag United Kingdom
ISP of your IP: Griffin Information Systems Limited
Something seems a little amiss.

Re: Email server problem?

My email was OK last night but I keep getting requests to login to the mailboxes each time Outlook goes to update.  Shocked
So do hope this is fully resolved promptly  Wink

It /might/ be non-Plusnet IPs rather than a GeoIP filter. If I'm honest I can't remember.
Anyway, the mail collection problems should be resolved now however there may be the odd blip as we clean up some loose ends.
[quote author="Service Status"]Email collection problems (71753) - UPDATE
This is an update to this morning's post about the intermittent problems you may have been experiencing collecting your email or accessing our Webmail platform.
We have identified the cause of this morning's problems and a temporary fix has been put in place. You should now be able to access your email as normal, however further remedial work is required so there may be further interruptions in service as our engineers continue working on the problem.
We'll leave this service status thread open for monitoring and will provide another update later this afternoon.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
Kind Regards,

Re: Email server problem?

Never been asked for a CAPTCHA when logging in from a non-Plusnet IP Bob.

@Bob Pullen...  yesterday you said...

Some of the mail servers are under pretty heavy load. Our engineers are looking into it ...
.
What was the cause of the heavy load?

Re: Email server problem?

Interesting observation about the CAPTCHA, I'll have that looked into.

What was the cause of the heavy load?

Yesterday it was the result of several massive mailboxes polling the collection servers which caused NFS locks on the storage platform. This shouldn't really happen but the situation escalated to the point where we needed to switch across to our secondary storage platform (and back again). We have a case open with the vendor and have sent them some diagnostic info.
This morning was slightly different. It was the incoming mail platform that was being absolutely hammered by mail for a specific domain. The steps required to fix this were similar, although we didn't manage to get as much diagnostic information this time round.

Re: Email server problem?

Hi,
Is the problem back again, or something similar?  Outlook has just prompted me for username/password for POP3 access to some of my mailboxes.
[First post so hopefully I've not done anything stupid!]

Re: Email server problem?

I've just had a very brief period of authentication errors on my email too, I'm checking with the guys downstairs to see what's going on.

Re: Email server problem?

Just been asked for my password, on both computers I had on at the time
Manual send / receive worked OK.

Re: Email server problem?

It looks like the work to fix this problem hasn't been entirely successful.
I keep getting kicked out of webmail at irregular intervals (session invalid or exipred), and several IMAP failures when trying to log back in.
