Email phishing scam or genuine?

Hi, I received an email ‘security alert’ saying my account has been suspended and to click on the link to confirm email. I thought this was phishing so haven’t clicked on anything, but I can’t forward the message or any messages to anyone as it says server error, so I wondered if it was genuine? I can send and receive mail, but not forward mail. Any thoughts?!

cheers, Helen

@chickenhelen That email is a definite scam - it has been discussed elsewhere.

Re: Email phishing scam or genuine?

Thanks, I thought it probably was phishing, it was just a bit weird that I can’t forward any mail - that’s obviously an entirely different problem!!

Yes, the forwarding issue is totally different, and probably outside my skill-set.

Maybe if @Townman  or @MisterW  spot this, they can assist better.

@chickenhelen

EXACTLY what server error does the attempt to forward the suspicious email give rise to?  There are lots of 'server error' states.

Which email brand?

Re: Email phishing scam or genuine?

Hi, so I was originally getting remote server error, but now I get the message : The connection to the outgoing server “smtp.plus.net” failed. I was trying to forward the ‘doggy’ email to plusnet. Maybe, it’s because there’s a ‘live’ link in the mail? Anyway, I’ll just take a screenshot and send that. Thanks for helping.

Re: Email phishing scam or genuine?

I'm not saying this is the problem, @chickenhelen , in fact it probably isn't, but the outgoing server should be 'relay.plus.net'.

Also, have you tried sending the email as an attachment, rather than forwarding it?
