Re: Email is hopeless

Fair enough - I just don't have the need to access my emails while away from the laptop, and you never know when servers might throw a wobbly, or even worse, totally crash, so I prefer to save all my messages locally. 😀

Re: Email is hopeless

@plusnettony

I just ran a cURL test to a *.plus.com account and got this after the login...

< A002 OK LOGIN Ok.
> A003 LIST "" *
* schannel: server close notification received (close_notify)
< * BYE Courier-IMAP server shut down by signal.
* schannel: server indicated shutdown in a prior call
* response reading failed (errno: 0)
* shutting down connection #0
curl: (56) response reading failed (errno: 0)

Re: Email is hopeless

Hi folks,

My view of the world today is:-

  • Access to Email ( <username>@<username>.plus.com ) has been worse than the recent service level.
  • Using 'Normal' or 'Basic' webmail has never displayed my inbox - always dies.
  • My Thunderbird (IMAP) has had some "Server imap.plus.net has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem." error messages but is keeping up.
  • I have a copy of Thunderbird (IMAP), which has not been used for a few days, catching up (syncronising) with my other halfs mailbox (<theotherhalf>@<username>.plus.com) and it's also disconnecting but is very slowly getting there.

We know that IMAP (IMAP.plus.net) is directed to the Greenby proxy server (91.204.208.26).
Could this server be adding an extra (big?) delay and slowing things down?
Is there a server in PlusNet land that one of the superusers could access directly to compare performance between the two routes - via the proxy vs direct to server?

Re: Email is hopeless

@MoonMan

In short, no.

The issue appears to be random, thus any attempt at 'benchmarking' testing ... has no dependable benchmark.

I have though (just) asked a number of appropriate questions.

Similar issues again webmail, stuck at refreshing, then just stops.

Re: Email is hopeless

I'm getting a constant refreshing circle. Sometimes the emails show up for a few seconds then it goes back to refreshing or shuts down with some sort of IMAP message. I'm trying to get msgs through that are very important and this is the only email address the hospital has for me.

Re: Email is hopeless

Just tried again and got "Server Error: SELECT: Courier - IMAP server shut down by signal"

I've had that a lot. Can't get one email dealt with.

Re: Email is hopeless

Can we assume this is being looked at by the email team at Plusnet?

@pedroc Yes - they have been given information that will hopefully enable them to investigate the issue.

Re: Email is hopeless

Having same issues here.
I have been unable to sync my plusnet email (imap) since 8:30 this morning.
Stumbling across this thread, is the first I have heard about the email service being outsourced to a third party! Surely plusnet should have notified customers of upcoming changes!
I am also unable to login to webmail, I just keep getting a message that says login failed!

They have  done - notifications have been sent to your default mailbox and/or your notification address, if different.

Plusnet may say that ... but one of my sons had their Force9 account migrated this morning, and the FIRST they heard of it was the "Welcome to Greenby" email today. No 30 day or 60 day warning.

Re: Email is hopeless

Well, @mavison , I certainly received a notification to my notification address on 13/05/2025 , and a further one to my 'username@username.plus.com' address a couple of months back - don't know exactly when, as it got deleted, having no useful information in it.

Re: Email is hopeless

I've been back through my email archive and have no emails or message from plusnet about this!
