Re: Email from HP Printer

What options does the printer support in configuring the SMTP server?  It must be capable of you specifying the following...

  • From email address
  • SMTP server name
  • SMTP server port
  • SMTP encryption - STARTTLS is ideal
  • SMTP User ID
  • SMTP Password

These need to be the same as used in your email client.

Thereafter there can be issues if the from address does not match something useful, such as a real email address that you use.  It will for example give rise to SPF failures ... and there will no way of you receiving non-delivery reports.

Which HP printer?

Whose email service are you tyring to send via?  If not Plusnet but Gmail or Outlook you'll probably need an app password ... and this query does not belong here, but rather elsewhere under other technical support.

There's lots of help out on Google - search "HP printer scan to email settings"

Re: Email from HP Printer

HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3302

Server name:  relay.plus.net

Port: 587

Always use TLS/SSL: Yes
Server requires Authentication.  Tried both yes and no.

Username, main account username and Password.

Re: Email from HP Printer

Could be the problem.

Port 587 uses STARTTLS.

Try none or use the obsolete port 465 with TLS/SSL.

Re: Email from HP Printer

How do I trouble shoot...  It says the email has been sent, so that should mean the SMTP server connect is good...

The email then disappears

Re: Email from HP Printer

Make sure your HP printer has a valid DNS or it will not be able to translate relay.plus.net to an IP to send the emails.

If needed set a Public DNS 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8   ( we have both set on our Epson printer/scanner )

SMTP ports are via 587 with STARTTLS or via 465 with SSL/TLS you can try both but don't muddle the encryption modes.

[edit]

Looking at this HP manual on page 33 : https://manuals.coolblue.be/8a/hp-color-laserjet-3302fdw.pdf

Encryption is mentioned as (SSL/TLS) which usually means SMTPS via Port 465
