Re: Email encryption password

Can someone remind me why Plus Net use this awful CAPTCHA system anyway?
Surely the awful performance and frequent IMAP drops are protection enough from any self-respecting spammer?

To mitigate the use of compromised accounts to send spam from offshore locations. It only happens when you're not connected to our network.

Evidently not (based on what I know) Wink

Re: Email encryption password

I thought I’d seen the back of this problem but this request for an encryption password has raised its ugly head again today  Angry  Angry . Can we please get rid of this once and for all?  Undecided

Re: Email encryption password

Just to confirm, and to make Plusnet staff aware, this has started happening on my Metronet email account but my Plusnet account is , mercifully, free of it.

Re: Email encryption password

Sounds like the fix wasn't rolled out to the Metronet Webmail install. I've reopened problem 64875 to have somebody revisit the issue...

Re: Email encryption password

Bob - This was cured on both Metronet and Plusnet, but has now reappeared over the last couple of days on Metronet only

Re: Email encryption password

Can't see why the config. would have reverted if it was indeed fixed. Neither am I aware of any newly added pools of IP addresses. Will see what our developers/engineers make of it and will report back...

Investigation suggests otherwise. Doesn't look as if we ever fixed it for Metronet. We've identified what code needs altering and will make the necessary changes as soon as the opportunity arises...

Re: Email encryption password

If the user was assigned a dynamic IP from the older ranges the CAPTCHA wouldn't appear. This would give the appearance that the problem with the new ranges had been fixed - even though it hadn't. Smiley

Re: Email encryption password

Well, 'Investigation suggests otherwise' is not matched by user experience  ;). Both accounts were free for a few months then Metronet started asking for an encrypted password a few days ago and now it's gone again. Checked last night and both Plusnet and Metronet email accounts are mercifully free of this annoyance  Smiley  Plesae can we make sure it doesn't re-appear  Cool

Are you on a fixed or a dynamic IP?
