Direct transfer of emails from PlusNet Webmail to Gmail?

I have tried to add my webmail account to Gmail and go through each step only to be told couldn't open connection to server. What am I doing wrong?

I choose non Google mail, ie. other. I put in webmail address is. ian@kay46.plus.com and password ( I have asked Plusnet for password verification but haven't had a response!) I then choose IMAP, and Gmail then searches and says cannot connect to server.

You need to make sure that the other settings are entered manually. GMail chooses default settings which do not work. For IMAP, you need to set the incoming server as imap.plus.net, port 143, and the outgoing as relay.plus.net, port 587.

For both incoming/outgoing set SSL/TSL to none.

Fantastico! That worked, but who'd know? I tried another email app which accepted all accounts with no problem.

So glad it worked. I tried it out on a nook android based tablet as an alternative to the stock email app it cam supplied with. I think I now prefer Gmail!
