Can't work out how to change my webmail password after hack alert

I can't work out how to change my webmail password – though it's probably very obvious…

I got an unnerving 'you've been hacked' email today, using a correct password. So I've tried to change my webmail password, but without success. The only thing I've been able to change is the password for the Plusnet Member Centre, and doing that hasn't affected the old password for my webmail.

My main email address is @globalnet, but the hacked email was a different email (user@anotherdomain) that redirects to my main globalnet address. That domain is not hosted by globalnet/plusnet.

I use the Mail programme on a Mac – should I be changing the password in the Accounts/Imap/globalnet box in there (I have to confess I've delayed doing that so far in case it screws up all my email traffic…) in light of the hack and to effect the webmail password change?

If anyone can understand what I'm on about and can help, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks!

Re: Can't work out how to change my webmail password after hack alert

Hi @lr

Thanks for getting in touch.

I've just double-checked this with my own account.

If you're looking to change the password for your primary mailbox, resetting the password for your Member Centre login is linked and will reset the primary email password - I've just tested this and it worked straight away.

If you're looking to change the password for a secondary mailbox, you'll need to log into the Member Centre, click on "Manage my Mail" and then click on "Edit" next to the mailbox in question.

Best wishes

Dave

For a Globalnet account you’ll need to change your password via the Madasafish portal here: https://secure.madasafish.com/forgotpassword/

Hope this helps. Smiley

Apologies @lr - didn't spot that it was Globalnet.

Thanks to @Gandalf for the catch on that one!

Re: Can't work out how to change my webmail password after hack alert

Hi @lr, I've just tried entering the email address from the account on the page Anoush has advised and it seems to have triggered a password reset email to be sent through. Could you confirm if this has come through now?

Thanks.

Would you mind dropping me a PM confirming the email address you're checking for this and that you were previously entering when going through the password reset link?

Thanks.

Re: Can't work out how to change my webmail password after hack alert

Thanks @lr... Bit of a slow moment to be honest, I appreciate you mentioned it was a secondary mailbox in your initial post, the advice we've been giving up to now has been for the main mailbox.

As this is regarding a secondary mailbox/alias on the account, you'd need to log in to the main account at https://secure.madasafish.com/myaccountdx/summary/ and then navigate to the 'Internet Extras' section of the site to change the secondary mailbox password.

I hope this helps.

Re: Can't work out how to change my webmail password after hack alert

Hi Harry,

I think you have all been focusing on the right thing – my main mailbox – as that's the webmail whose password I can't change – via https://webmail.plus.net/.  The Madasafish link https://secure.madasafish.com/myaccountdx/summary/ you gave me in your last email has already been updated with my new password, so that's not the issue as far as I know.

Thanks for persisting with this.

Re: Can't work out how to change my webmail password after hack alert

Hi @Ir,

Sorry about the continued confusion.

Just to clarify, you can't change your main mailbox password?

However you can login to the MAAF portal and access your account summary: https://secure.madasafish.com/myaccountdx/summary/?

If you can access your account summary page, could you try updating your contact email address to something different and then maybe try re-sending the forgotten password request?

Re: Can't work out how to change my webmail password after hack alert

Hi

The thing that I can't change – don't know how to change – is my webmail password for my main mailbox. The one that I access via https://webmail.plus.net/.

(Tbh, I think I only have one mailbox, as emails to my other addresses are forwarded to my globalnet mailbox from a different domain that's not hosted by globalnet/plusnet any more. I never check them separately. Though maybe I'm wrong in thinking that?)

And, yes, I can log in to the MAAF portal and access my account summary at https://secure.madasafish.com/myaccountdx/summary/.

But the only email address the portal/summary will accept for triggering a reset password is my normal (main/only) globalnet one.

Re: Can't work out how to change my webmail password after hack alert

Hi @lr

I am sorry about this but I am a bit confused by your last message.

Hi Optimatts,

The thing that I can't change – don't know how to change – is my webmail password for my main mailbox. The one that I access via https://webmail.plus.net/.

You are mentioning that you do not know how to change the password for the main mailbox.

And, yes, I can log in to the MAAF portal and access my account summary at https://secure.madasafish.com/myaccountdx/summary/.

But the only email address the portal/summary will accept for triggering a reset password is my normal (main/only) globalnet one.

but in the above text you are saying that it will only accept a password reset for the (main/only) email.

All Globalnet emails now use https://webmail.plus.net/ to access the mailbox, so whenever a password for the Globalnet email is changed through https://secure.madasafish.com/myaccountdx/summary, the same password will be used to login to https://webmail.plus.net/ with.

This is assuming that you only have one globalnet/plusnet email address for which you are wanting to change the password for.

Hi there, do you have an alternate email address that could be updated on your account just to see if the reset email reaches there?
