Hi everybody, my first post here and not at all techie. I've done a search for an answer but everything that comes up is a slightly different problem.
I've just migrated PC's from Win10 from Win 11 and have been having trouble setting up my Madasafish .globalnet.co.uk account up in the new Outlook.
After much trouble I can receive incoming POP emails but whichever variations on a theme I try I can't send emails. The settings I've tried for outcoming are
smtpmail.globalnet.co.uk
Port 25 and also 587
SSL -No
SMTP Auth - Yes (but I don't seem to see this in the Outlook setup box?)
the settings above were suggested by Plusnet Support
and I've also tried
relay.plus.net
Port 587
which somebody else suggested
and also
smtp.plus.net
port 25
which is the setting on my old PC.
Does anybody have any ideas? I'm confident I'm doing something wrong but I've been going around in circles and now can't see the wood for the trees.

POP3 on Port 995 with SSL encryption, may be shown as SSL/TLS
SMTP on Port 587 with encryption STARTTLS (may be shown as TLS depending on Outlook version )
Maybe on a preceding tab enable : Outgoing server requires authentication, Use same settings as incoming mail server

Thanks. I've tried starting over again the common denominator for 'there seems to be a problem' is putting in 'pop3.plus.net' for incoming mail, anything else and I can open an account in Outlook and get incoming mail. The Plusnet Support also said smtp authorisation is needed, but in the dialogue box there is space for an smtp password if it is different from my POP password, which it isn't, anyway I don't have another password.
Am I right in thinking that if the incoming mail is arriving it's the smtp side where the settings don't add up, or they intricately connected?

I think the problem was the Port number, 587 seems to have worked (fingers crossed) because a couple of test emails have just arrived from my globalnet account to gmail. But the configuration settings are now nothing like the advice on Plusnet's web site or the suggestions from Support, nor the settings on my old PC.

Hopefully now you have an email configuration with Encryption enabled on both the POP3 and the SMTP servers
so as to ensure your email credentials are secure when out of the house using a public hot spot.

I guess, by hook or by crook I ended up with the settings in your link by trail and error but mostly error. But they aren't the same settings I found on the Plusnet site yesterday or the settings given over the phone and in a backup email from Plusnet.
But thank you, with that link I would have got things sorted out eventually, if only Plusnet could have pointed me at it in the first place.👍

This really does not help the user here. That guide is for *.plus.com users, this user is Global Net, further even for Plusnet users the guide is far from ideal.
The correct settings for all brands can be found in the email server connection diagnostic thread on this board - a short cut link can be found below.

This guy might indeed have a solution ... by one means or another ... however content of the forum is intended to be reusable, so clarity is essential.

It would be good to see complete and correct email configuration details on the GreenBy website.
That would serve well for the future service. We can only hope.
Knowing what life is like delivering a business divestment programme, I would not expect Plusnet to spend
any time curating the email aspects of their website ... except for deciding on which web pages can be be retired.

Agreed, but where there’s an open door!!
The Greenby settings are no different to the CORRECT settings for the existing Plusnet platforms (ignoring confusing and incomplete documentation). The sever connection diagnostic tool provides all of the correct settings. It is the targeted resource in the migration FAQ.
There are non-standard settings which might work now, but will not work going forwards, such as referencing IP addresses instead of server names and some credentials formats.
Anything found not to work is probably a new service configuration flaw.
