I can receive but can't send email from a 3 MIFI network when away from home.
They are returned with the message.
550 <xxx@xxx.co.uk> recipient rejected - relay denied
I can send from webmail, (which I still find clumbersome and slow) so am assuming it's a problem between my PC and PN servers? (don't know total wally with things like this) I've tried changing ports but no difference.
I'm using MS Outlook 2007 as the email client - old but works perfectly fine from home.
Any thoughts please?

Do you need to create a new sending account/profile to send from outside the Plusnet broadband connection?
The email client (POP3) on my mobile is set to:
SMTP server: smtp.plus.net
Port: 587

@archerry No , but you do need to authenticate when not sending from a Plusnet IP address.
@Mayfly you need to setup the outgoing smtp server to authenticate using your plusnet username and password , the same ones as used for incoming mail.

Thanks @MisterW I did try that but looking at it again
I think I may have made a typo. I'll try again next time I'm there and let you know.

@Mayfly you can set authentication while youre here, it will still work when on a PlusNet connection. That way you can check that the username/password is correct. I have all my mobile devices set permanently for authenticated smtp, that way they will work anywhere.

I recall seeing in other threads with a similar email sending problem, a caveat of making sure the outgoing SMTP server is set correctly too. I can't remember the details (without going hunting) but you probably can.

Out today so trying email again
Out going server ticked,
User Name username@plusdsl.net
Password is my password and checked.
But when that is set up I can't even send anything, when unticked email will go but still comes back undeliverable.
Port 587.

@Mayfly Try just 'username' i.e. forget the '@plusdsl.net' bit?

Further to what I mentioned above, perhaps you could check that your outgoing SMTP server is set to relay.plus.net and not smtp.plus.net just in case, as ISTR that's what's been a problem for others.
I don't use Outlook so can't really help with that, but when you refer to 'User Name' is that the same as 'Account Name'?
If so, I'm thinking the information required would be your PlusNet 'accountname' not 'username@plus.net' (which is your DSL login name), but ICBW.
Edit: @jab1 beat me to it with the 'accountname'

@Mayfly wrote:
User Name username@plusdsl.net
Has nothing to do with the configuration of email whatsoever.
This form of the username is only ever used in a (modem) router connected to the Plusnet network.
For email set up the user name should be
- username for the default mailbox
- username+mailbox for a secondary mailbox
That is on all devices, connected direct to the Plusnet network or otherwise.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links
