Successful First Connection

Powered up the router at 16:35 BST, connected and correctly configured (with correct broadband username) just 3 minutes later.
However the log shows (note the times shown are GMT due to a "feature" of the firmware):
<99> Jun 24 15:40:38 SNTP Systemtime update: time setting 00:05:36 > new time setting: 15:40:38
<102> Jun 24 15:40:38 SNTP Synchronised to server: 212.159.6.9
<24> Jun 24 15:46:48 [CWMP: 0:11:46.220] Connection timed out
That suggests to me that the update process mentioned in the quote
[quote=email]
At this point there are a number of other processes that need to run between the router and the Easy Setup server, so please don't make any changes to the router setup during this time - you should however be fine to use your internet connection as you normally would do.
has failed. Is that assumption correct?

Re: Successful First Connection

Ok - That's nothing to worry about (apart from a random error.  The CWMP deals with the connection from your router to the ACS).
We can see you happily connected on the ACS so all looks well.
Thanks for letting us know!

Re: Successful First Connection

It does appear that the following (previously mentioned) "timeout" was just a random error. Note GMT times:
<24> Jun 24 15:46:48 [CWMP: 0:11:46.220] Connection timed out
Almost 1hr 10min after power-up (longer than the 1hr suggested in the email) the log shows:
<14> Jun 24 16:43:42 CONFIGURATION saved by TR69
I changed my account password at 19:10 BST, (18:10 GMT) got Member Centre confirmation OK (still the non-Easy Start version) and the PPP session to the router dropped then reconnected as expected reflecting this change. See log extract:
<132> Jun 24 18:12:11 PPP link down (Internet) [212.159.xxx.xxx]
<143> Jun 24 18:12:11 GRP Default destination is not routed anymore via gateway 212.159.xxx.xxx
<85> Jun 24 18:12:11 FIREWALL event (1 of 1): created rules
<14> Jun 24 18:12:13 CONFIGURATION saved by TR69
<39> Jun 24 18:12:18 PPP CHAP Receive challenge (rhost = ESR8.Manchester5)
<39> Jun 24 18:12:18 PPP CHAP Receive challenge (rhost = THN-AG1)
<38> Jun 24 18:12:18 PPP CHAP Chap receive success : authentication ok
<132> Jun 24 18:12:18 PPP link up (Internet) [212.159.xxx.xxx]
Since I'm keeping the new password, I amended email entries to suit. I received "changed password" email notification ref: E0515. This contains:
[quote=email 0515]
This email is being sent to confirm that your PlusNet
password has been updated. This change takes immediate effect.
--------------------------*IMPORTANT*---------------------------------
You will need to update the password stored in your modem or router.
If you don't do this then your next attempt to connect to the Internet
will be unsuccessful.
--------------------------*IMPORTANT*---------------------------------
Obviously the *IMPORTANT* paragraph needs updating for those using Easy Start routers.

Re: Successful First Connection

OK My new unit installed and running.  Started at 21:33 and took about 4 minutes to get the first stage over and done with.
Noting Davids comment on GMT, I checked the configuration just prior to the Time synch event.  At that point it was reporting GMT Time Zone and Summer Time = Yes.
Checked just after the Time synch and Summer time now = No!
Time synch event about 3 minutes after the config was set.

Re: Successful First Connection

The time sync issue has been raised with Thomson and they've committed to fixing it in the not too distant future, it's nothing to do with our tr069 implementation.

Re: Successful First Connection

Just tried to change my Password via Member Centre after 30 Mins (22:16).  Member Centre Reports TR69 Device offline.  Options to Continue and update router manually or Cancel.
Cancelled and waiting for Thomson log to report synchronised again.

Re: Successful First Connection

The first "CONFIGURATION saved by TR69" that occurs before time sync (SysUpTime 00:01:59 in my case) was followed by another one 1hr 10 minutes later. I think that is the one users need to wait for before changing anything. It is useful to know what happens if users jump the gun.
Are you still on 2M fixed Maurice? Presumably that has 288kbps upstream sync so I wonder if it will take much longer than for me (448kbps sync) to transfer the configuration?

Edit: I've quoted the last paragraph in the Password change fail thread. Suggest any response is posted there.

Re: Successful First Connection

Internet access from a laptop using wireless worked OK, though the WPA/WPA2 key was different from the one on the label (presumably changed during configuration set-up for the trial in Plusnet Towers) but I've changed it to a different one anyway.

I'll ask about that for you today, it's something I'd like the answer to as well. Did you change any of the router config or power it off between those two updates?

I checked on this yesterday - what will happen is the pending tasks between the router and the ACS will resume from where they left off and the password change will be added to the end of the queue of tasks. It shouldn't affect the connection provided the router isn't rebooted before all the pending tasks have completed.

No to both and the router has been powered up since I turned it on for first connect (19 hours now).
I did the password change well after the second Configuration save. It dropped/reconnected the PPP session a couple of minutes later which would be the ACS implementing the password change. Since this is commanded by the ACS I'm not counting it as a configuration change "I" made. A further Configuration save followed that change. In any case it was after the second save.
The PPP session dropped/reconnected during the evening, which I guess would be to activate an IP Profile change.
I made no changes to the router configuration until I changed the WPA/WPA2 key after midnight BST (23:30 GMT). I assume the following "mbus" log entries are associated with this:
<102> Jun 24 22:40:39 SNTP Synchronised to server: 212.159.6.9
<14> Jun 24 23:28:46 CONFIGURATION mbus atomic sync successful
<14> Jun 24 23:29:04 CONFIGURATION mbus igd sync successfull
<14> Jun 24 23:30:29 CONFIGURATION mbus atomic sync successful
<14> Jun 24 23:30:46 CONFIGURATION mbus igd sync successfull
<102> Jun 24 23:40:39 SNTP Synchronised to server: 212.159.13.50
There hasn't been a Configuration save since then so I assume the ACS doesn't track that.
