windows backup

Why does windows backup (xp) not work with a cd re-writer? I get the message (please ensure it is a valid path, and that you have sufficient access).

Having never used windows backup before it looks like its just a limitation of the program, if you have enough space why not save the backup to your harddrive and burn it to cd or use a program like nero backup or equivelent that can backup direct to cd

The windows backup utlity doesn't work with a CD RW drive as described in this link

A Zip drive or other removable media. At 100-250MB per disk, this is an option if you don't have multiple gigabytes to back up. Unfortunately, the Windows Backup utility can't save files directly to a CD-RW drive.

It doesn't say anything about a CD -R so that may work but I doubt it. If you have Nero InCD loaded it might get round it but personally I wouldn't touch that program with a bargepole as it can cause more problems than it solves.
