Hi have win xp home ,with norton software internet suite,it willsomtimes not shut down when i get the error .DDE server error.am not on any network.just one pc any ideas anyone please...regards Peter . Sad

Have you scanned for viruses?

Have you installed all the updates for windows?

It will probaly be some software thats running and is slow to shut down. Make sure you close all progs first and then look for anything else thats running in the background. Its trial and error stop any background task one at a time and see which one is the problem

try a free little programme called tuneXP , it has little tweaks to speed up booting & shutting down plus various other useful bits & bobs, my PC shuts down in 3 seconds

SEEMS OK NOW

Cheesy aGH THANKS GUYS,the problem was I was not disconnecting the dsl when closing down...lazy or wot if I turn off from plusnet first the start computer off its ok ...regards peter
