usb problems/ mass storage device

hi there
wondered if someone could help me,
i have got an archos av320 which when connected to my computer should be recognised as a mass storage device.
the problem being that if i connect it to the computer with the computer powered up it dosnt, mostly locks the computer.
if i power up the archos and then the computer all is fine and it is recognised as a mass storage device and works perfectly.
thought it might be my usb 1.1 so installed a new usb 2.0 card, does exactly the same, have tried all usb ports on my comp, still no go when computer is turned on.
have tried archos help, all i got back is that they recon that my usb card is not powerfull enough!!
is there any way of reinstalling the usb drivers etc?
any help would be much appreciated and at least i can use it
thanks

What windows version are you using? Also the spec of your PC would help.

Are you running the latest OS version for that device - See download for OS 1.2.02 here

Also make sure you have the latest USB drivers - here.

Can't really help with your problem

Try windows update KB822603 for XPSP1, USB1.1 &2.
It addresses some power management issues.
Although not directly the problem your refering to,
the re-install might help.
