home networking

I am having trouble settimg up a home network between the pc and laptop. Both are recognising the connection but I get a "limited connection" warning. When I disable the firewall everything is ok, but then when I switch on the firewall I am back on square one. I thought that the firewall would be automatically configured when I enable the firewall. I am using zine alarm.

it normally asks if you want to let the local network to trusted.

You dont say which version but there is a simple setting which says trust all local ip or network address this normally fixes it. You have to do it on both pc's

You need to add your network to the zone alarm trusted zones.

In the zone alarm configuration GUI (started when you double click the zone alarm system tray icon), select the Firewall panel, then the zones tab.

Click the add button and select subnet
Set zone to be trusted

Enter your subnet IP address, this will be the same as the ip address of your pc but with the last value set to zero e.g. 192.168.0.0

The subnet mask should be the same as your PC's subnet mask, usually 255.255.255.0

Enter a description for you subnet, click Ok and away you go.
