ftp router problem

I have just installed a 4-port router, which is good apart from two things.
When i upload with my ftp prog it is very very slow ie 0.7kbs ,on my old usb modem it was slow but not as bad.usually around 6/7kbs.presumably its a port problem..any ideas ??
Also probably the same thing but i cant send files through msn anymore even when zipped..So anybody know what ports these progs use

You should need to add ports to any connection if you start the transfer. but if you want the port the list is here.

Its mor elikely that its a firewall issue

ftp router problem

Tryed all the port stuff still no joy.
Spent the best part of the day messing with settings and talkin to linksys customer service and they finally agreed that that it was a hardware fault,so lets hope the exchange unit is ok.
btw installed old binatone modem and speed is back up to superfast 8kb/s
